@B3 .. thank you... it will be called ''Notes from a Rose garden''...  yes it's fun to see the not so great parts of our gardens...  otherwise it can seem like someone is bragging too much if they only show the magazine shots...  I just wish I had a better camera, I've tried to use my iPhone but I'm not entirely happy with it, so use a digital camera, point and shoot thingy..

  • Thanks for your advice Marlorena.  You have much more experience with roses than I have and I have never come across this "canker" problem before with any of mine.  I had thought of cutting the affected stems to below the dark marks hoping that they will produce new shoots from below, although I won't have much of a plant left (this year), although I was a bit unsure if that was the correct thing to do with the plant.
I will post the plant on here later this year or next when I have some new growth to show.

Sorry to hear about you storm damage, Marlorena. We too had high winds and some damage to young rose stems. This LD Braithwaite bloom was snapped off, which was a shame as it was my first one of the season:

  • The wind has slammed my car door into the one next door whilst i was getting out at the supermarket. That's gonna cost me ...
    Be careful everyone
  • Thank you so much everyone!

@TinyGardenGIrl that's a bummer. Thanks for the heads up and I hope it doesn't cost too much.

  • Oh and @Marlorena I am very much looking forward to that new thread. 'Notes from a rose garden' - even the name is captivating as will the contents of the thread I am sure.

@Nollie … fantastic bloom.. this rose should be better known.. I really must try it one day..  sorry it got blown off but sometimes I like to just place a flower on a table like that in any case..

@Guernsey Donkey2    do let us know how your rose gets on, I'm sure it will do well this season..

@debs64   @MrsDeeGarden thank you both... I hope you find something of interest.. I shall be looking in here at all of yours too !...

It’s now gracing my kitchen table, Marlorena and getting admiring glances.

Looking forward to the first instalment of ‘notes from a rose garden’  :)
