    I too find breathing exercises useful, but I have also been addicted to sleeping tablets for 20 years.

    Did some breathing exercises at bedtime, and must have got off to sleep. However, now been awake since 3.30am! Tried them again and not worked so far!

    This only works in towns that have hills:
    Pick a spot - probably your house and try to visualise the surrounding area as relief map - removing the houses and roads If it helps.. Hills and folds in all directions here meeting a ridge at the top of the road.
    It's quite absorbing and  sometimes difficult to join the dots - beats counting sheep.  I got as far as Crystal Palace once. That was a bad night.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Lavender oil on your pillow or PJs might help
  • Cannot stand the smell of Lavender @Bluejayway
    So when you woke up, I went to sleep @Ergates 😴 four hours is not quite enough. 🥱

    Thank you for all your suggestions.

    I have to admit that while I've heard of podcasts, and my BIL says he produces many, I have no idea how to listen to them. Would I need something like a Walkman (still got my Sony one, that plays cassette tapes)?!

    @purplerallim
    The idea of soft music and low lighting sounds good - not sure what effect it might have on my OH though!😉

    @Ergates and @punkdoc
    Breathing exercises? I've not tried that one, but I'll try anything a few times.

    It's not so much the process of going to sleep, but actually STAYING asleep. I'm due to see my neurologist next month, and sleep problems will be one of those issues raised. I keep saying that if they find a way of improving my sleep, my seizures will reduce. They seem to think that if they increase my meds and reduce my seizures, then my sleep will improve. I tried sleeping tablets for 3 weeks. Improved my sleep, and reduced my seizures. GP wouldn't let me take them for any longer!!

    A novel idea. I'm always intrigued by maps, so it's a possibility. Given that I walk around the locality a lot, and it's hilly, it should be interesting. Our house is the highest in the road, so everything slopes down from us - except the back garden. That slopes gently up. We live at an elevation of 194ft above sea level.

    @Bluejayway
    It might work. I'll try it a few times.

    Thank you, all of you, for taking the time to reply. I do appreciate it.

  • @rowlandscastle444 I use my iPhone … or you can use an iPad or similar. Just download the BBC Sounds app and explore.  It’s very user friendly 😊

  • Oh. I don't have an iPad, iPhone, Tablet (except the medication type!), or laptop. I have a desktop pc, but that's a bit bulky, and on the desk in the spare bedroom.

    I'm really not up-to-date with the technology. Even my Mum has a Tablet!!

    Another thing that might be worth looking at is Melatonin, I took it when I was flying a lot.
