I started on the next strip to be dug, very pleased to get it going, only to find that the creeping cinquefoil that I sort of knew was there is much worse than expected. Now I've had a proper look it's
Just been out for a couple of hours. Really nice out there. Got in amongst my sleeping Astrantias (big mixed patch) and got to grips with the couch grass. Couldn't get it all out of course but it certainly looks better and is probably my last chance before the Astrantia leaves start poking through.
Also cleared some old Crocosmia & Kniphofia leaves, done some other clearing, shredding and added to compost heap. Bacon butty awaits.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
Dug up a couple of pheasant grasses and a very dead hebe. Weeded and lightly forked soil using a hand fork. Snowdrops and Narcissi are starting to poke through
Sunny, dry and warmish so rushed to the GC late morning and bought 3 bags horse manure. After lunch I spread one bag where I want to plant a new rose in a sleeper bed. Also planted out three red primulas for a splash of colour by the drive. Unfortunately I feel like I've got a cold coming so wanted to do the above whilst I was still able. Won't hurt the amended soil to settle for a few days.

@NormandyLiz Our area is plagued by creeping cinquefoil and it got more and more in my garden. In Autumn 2020, I took off the remaining lawn and removed in the following 9 months every single root even if I had to sacrifice the one or other plant. I have been free of cinquefoil since then … keep the fingers crossed.
Another couple of hours this morning until I was rained off. Finished mulching certain beds & pots with 2 year-old home-grown compost. My Astrantia suddenly have an extra 4 inches to push through but, being in a very sunny well-drained bed, they'll certainly benefit in the longer term. Murphy, our cat, will definitely approve!
