Everyone seems to be busy. Isn't it lovely to be out and about in the sunshine. I've edged the back lawn and planted some echinacea virgin and erisymum bowles mauve. Still have to find some space for some penstemon cuttings. Have been attacking geranium Samabor, love it but it does spread so need to keep it under control. Next job will be thin out the purple honesty that is getting a bit out of hand. Want to do more but need to watch out for the back so I'm taking a break.
Light day gardening today. Just weeding the paths/patio and checking/watering seedlings and plants. Things in the house need doing too, but can't seem to whip up much enthusiasm for them, prefer to garden.🙂
Tomato seedlings are coming! Re-potted a little rose I had as a cutting last year and said goodbye to a 10 plus year old Pieris which I had in a pot and has looked ill for the last few years (my own fault as not re-potted and kept in too shady an area). Spare pot to fill now though.
Flintster. I had a low gemination rate with my chilli and pepper seeds this year too and some where only bought last year. I've about thirty plants though, which need to be kulled to about 15 to 20. Think I'll save the seeds this year night have a better germination rate.
Did some jobs in the back garden before going to the allotment. Planted out some lettuce and did lots of weeding.
Zoomer it’s a funny one, as I bought 3 different chilli seeds from Devon Chilli Farm. I sowed them in a divided seed tray, in a heated propagator and all the others germinated fine, but a not a single one of the Bulgarian Carrot seed germinated. I sowed another 5 seeds and again nothing. I contacted them and they are doing their own germination test which takes 2 weeks and if they have a problem I get a refund- I thought that was a bit poor on the customer service front to be honest, but will have to wait and see! Bit annoying!
Been busy clearing my borders of weeds and unfortunately plants that had became contaminated with other invasive species like day lillies and loose strife also dug to the other side of the world to clear out an old rose. I now have a very tidy but empty border! I'm glad I finally made the decision to sort it out as I've been living with these clumps of intertwined plants for too many years now.
Thanks AnniD and Flinster, the dreaded lurgy can't make its mind up whether to strike or not yet. Been eating honey like no tomorrow to stave off the sore throat. Went down to the school garden again today and started cutting down all the old perennials - a bit late I know, the miscanthus was already sprouting so tiptoed round that. Planted some of my spring bulbs I had had in pots - hopefully they will come up next year. Really excited to see that the purple Corylus had lovely plummy catkins on it, first time I'd seen them. Hope the children like them.
More frantic fence painting when I got the chance, out of paint now.
Watering.
Added cardboard to compost.
Ordered; More paint, seed, potting and multi compost, hessian troughs, shears, secateurs, cat brush, and another garden bag (clean enough to put in car).
Top soil has just arrived, looks quite sandy ( but that is just a glance at the top) but I have mpc and manure to go in too( but no manure in the carrot/ beetroot bed) so I know what I will be doing today.🙄
Wasn't what l had planned to do, but went to the GC to spend £5 voucher before it expired at the end of this month. Bought 3 bags of compost and one packet of seeds. Cut back pyracantha in front garden with the aid of OH. Moved some wallflowers from back garden to front as replacements. OH cut grass while l chopped up pyracantha for green bin. Sadly found a dead female sparrow in the flower bed, no obvious signs of injury, l think she may have flown into the greenhouse door, or else natural causes. Put some plant supports up in various places. The poppy seeds l had planned to sow can wait until tomorrow now. Hopefully .
