Anyone done any gardening today? Part 5

Turned my compost heap for the first time in months..  bone dry a couple of inches below the surface!! I think there's far too much green in there too. I've mixed in a load of cardboard, and poured a few buckets o water over the top.  We have a yellow warning of rain tonight so maybe it will get another good soak.. if so, I'll get the tarpaulin on tomorrow.

I spotted some cosmos seedlings that appeared around my now-fading cosmos in pots and in beds, so I've potted them up and put them in the greenhouse - free plants for next year!  And I've started potting up some of my tulip bulbs.

Took all the dahlia tubers out of their pots and into cardboard boxes to over winter in the garage today. Also did some other general tidying jobs as well, but still some more to do but it turned very windy and chilly so called it a day about 2 pm.
  • The storm came in earlier than I expected so didn't make it to the beach, too dangerous. Torrential rain "showers" and very strong winds so no gardening.  A holly tree was brought down across one of the paths by the village green, had to about turn and retrace my footsteps. When I came home I did some filling ready to paint walls and filled a bin liner with clothing ready to go to a charity shop.

I have to wait 6 weeks for the eye scan to be processed and analysed before seeing a consultant to be told which"pathway" they think I need to follow. I thought from the letter I had, it would all be done on the one appointment, but no such luck. The only info. I gleaned was, the pressure in my eyes is fine, so I assume that means no glaucoma, hopefully.

The garden looks sodden and battered, a few stray pots have been blown around but no structural damage. I shall pick the last of my apples today if they have not already been blown off the tree, and any tomatoes that need to be brought indoors. The mini cyclamen are beginning to show their appreciation of being under cover, the leaves are developing and the stems lengthening, not long before flower buds appear.

Lovely flowers for this time of the year, yes you can call it gardening if you're looking how things go going.

Yesterday i tied some more of the blackberries up for next year. Today i cut back 3 redcurrant bushes to get ready to dig them up later on.

Been out this afternoon to put fleece around some of the potted plants and to huddle some together for extra warmth during the coming cooler nights and days. The begonia in the front garden is still happily flowering in its wheelbarrow container so I’ll leave that a bit longer before I cover it up with fleece. There’s a distinct autumnal feeling out there now, with the starlings chattering away in the nearby tree, and a particular earthy smell that seems to appear in the autumn.
I managed to get finished what I wanted to do today before the rain appeared again, although it’s stopped now.

I had a new rose Ghislaine de Feligonde delivered today so was able to soak it in water then plant it out while it was dry and sunny. I was so pleased I'd prepped the soil beforehand. Then, blow me, three bags of Tete a Tete daffs were delivered an hour later so I was able to plant them out as well!

I planted a new bare root rose that arrived today and also 30 Tete a Tete daffs that were delivered separately - very pleased.
It was dry and sunny so that was a bonus.
