You're brave @Joyce Goldenlily, If I had to venture into your pond, it would be up to my neck! I'm glad you took very sensible precautions and survived to tell the tale.

    A good job, well done.

  • I must admit I was rather nervous as I wasn't sure just how deep my pond is. Fortunately, I had waited until the heat had lowered the water level considerably so when I stood in the centre the water was just below the bottoms of my shorts. Not a pretty sight! I seem to remember the pond is about 4ft deep in the central pit.
I was also concerned about how slippery the liner might be as it has a fairly steep slope and whether my weight on the stones and gravel might puncture the liner.
The 2 fish I disturbed had quite a shock, I am keeping an eye open for corpses in case I  killed them with shock but nothing so far. The silt is still hanging in suspension so the water looks very dark but time will solve that.
I had a furtle around in a box of bits and found the Mud Muncher solution as well as the Blanket Weed remover so was going to dose the pond today but it is raining and looking very threatening. It may brighten up later, now is time for a coffee and to sit and admire my handiwork.
It doesn't take much to make me happy!
  • I dosed my pond, move the boulders and waste pond plants, and washed the surround down.
Potted on half a dozen kale plants.
    Planted out some dwarf beans.
Removed the dead wood from my lemon tree and black stemmed bamboo.
    Tied in the tomatoes.
Began collecting up the piles of dead weeds I had left to desiccate in the heat.
Cut a few flowers for a vase indoors.
    In other words, I pottered.

I have 20 Bugle and Sweet Woodruff to plant. Raining at the moment, but forecast is for a sunny afternoon.

Done some pot shuffling today and planted two Heucheras in the ground before the weevils get any ideas. Very pleased that my Clematis Miss Bateman is coming into flower again after a poor show in Spring, resulting in a chop to the base.

Picked this lot. Carrots and cucumbers gone into soup, and all but the red bowl of toms into sauce.
  • What a lovely crop of veg. I am waiting with bated breath for my 3rd! tomato to ripen. I was very late with my toms., this year.
I am sadly coming to the conclusion that the 2 "cucumber" plants I have in the greenhouse are in fact gherkins. I sowed both early and lost most of them to inclement weather conditions. I thought I had saved the cucumbers so purchased a shop bought gherkin plant to replace my self sown ones. The 2 plants in the greenhouse have reached the eaves, tied in to canes. They are both carrying plenty of fruit which I now think look more like gherkins than cucumbers.
We shall see. How exciting is gardening?
My pond is already clearing and looking happier.

Spent three hours in the garden dead heading and pulling plants that had succumbed to the weather. Now the green bin is full ( hubby did both lawns too) will have to wait till Friday to start again.
Picked a few pounds of plums too.

I started to prune the horrid spiny berberis right at the top of our garden with my new easy reach pruner. A job I hate but needs must. Both Council green bins full up now so like @purpleallim will have to wait till Friday after they've been collected.

    I've got one carrot!!!
