  • I emptied 2 potato sacks and riddled the compost into shallow containers for salad crops.

Then partially filled 2 new ones and planted first earlies.

Moved a huge bag of compost into the greenhouse. Pulled a muscle in my neck.

But greenhouse looking all businesslike now.

6 types of tomatoes on the go and 3 kinds of chilli.

    Tomatillos doing well.

    Herbs Galore

    Salad crops coming on

    Black eyed Susan romping away

Cut the lawn in the back.

Planted some of the perennials I got for the new bed.

Moved a couple of perennials around in the front garden as they were congested.

    Potted up some more bulbs.

  • I pruned my roses in pots.
Weeded some of the containers on the patio.

Was up and out very early today and continued with mulching the beds, steady progress being made. I cut the grass on Monday evening and am delighted to find that the clippings have got my compost system working again after winter 55°c and rising
  • I was able at last to have my long-planned bonfire. A dry spell and wind direction dictates when I can light it. I am disappointed that the main heap of weed-infested soil did not get hot enough to burn but did get rid of a lot of rotten timber including two old gates.
I will soon have to do some potting on, a lot of the seeds I sowed a few days ago have come through. They are sitting on a very hot window sill under their plastic domes so watering is of the essence in keeping them growing. I am going to move them onto a more shady windowsill to avoid sunburn.

I bought a bag of first early seed potatoes on impulse (wasn't going to bother this year) so I though I'd better clear out the half-water-butts that I grew spuds in last year. Came back in with about 1.5 kg of perfectly good potatoes! I think I've decided to use bags this year though (there are some lurking in the shed). The half-butts seemed like a good idea at the time but they're too heavy to tip out and lifting the spuds is hard work (and obviously I didn't do a very good job of it).
And potted up a (supposedly) dwarf raspberry that was also an impulse buy. I was only in B&Q garden section for some horticultural grit and sand for my Dad and some strawberry plants for a Mothers' day prezzie (honest guv, everything else just fell onto the trolley :)).
Grass needs another cut, that'll be a job for tomorrow.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

More prep than proper gardening, but I hauled 6 bags of manure from the front of the house down to the bottom of the 100ft garden- to put in two of the raised beds.
Continued to harden off peas and sweet peas.
Rearranged seedlings - including putting  more in the Vitopod with grow lights as have run out of windowsill room.
Shifted a few pots of spring flowers around - I need to have a concerted go at this and also sort through potted herbs to see which ones have had it.
Put 7 types of Ipomea to soak.
Sowed 12 pots of mainly calendulas (um excessive? Different varieties...) some tomatoes and something else.
Just realized I left the shed unlocked... ah well. Should be ok.
My dwarf potted plum (I think that's what it is) is flowering :)
  • I sowed my sweetcorn, repotted 3 alstroemeria, and a new Rose. Did a bit of weeding and sweeping. Moved a second plastic section of plastic shelving into the greenhouse ready for the seedling trays. Watered the trays of seedlings indoors. I am going to have a huge pricking-out session to do in a few weeks time.

Some pruning, some patio cleaning, some cuppas.

Might have to retire a little Azalea as it was a bit lame last year and nothing much to it this year. I’ll dig that out tomorrow.
My garden and I live in South Wales.
