@Fire , I put 10 ml gravel around plants that slugs 🐌 like Hosta , it’s not 100% but I get very little damage

  • Just dug-up the last of the parsnips and the last stick of brussels for dinner. :)
Too cold and windy for doing much outside, so will prep the heated bed in the potting shed instead. ;) Also noticed the Erythroniums I planted at the end of October are pushing their noses through. :)

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

A rather productive day here. Sowed carrots and beetroot in the veg patch and weeded generally, particularly the onions and shallots. Waiting patiently for the (self-seeded) borage in the veg patch to stop flowering (bees are about) but ousted the seedlings. Sowed various flowers and veg in the greenhouse. Still adjusting to sowing here earlier than in England (most of the seeds were brought from England pre-Brexit). First two rows of broad beans have emerged (late planting) so need to plant more. Watered some plants.

Colours are now showing on the hyacinths (outdoor) - happy days.

Hope everyone has a successful 2022.

Just had time to weed one of the small beds on the back garden terraces, a nice easy job, standing up! Back was a bit achy after yesterdays efforts so needed to take it easy. Very chilly easterly wind though so was glad of the shelter from the house. Watered the two new potted roses which may have been a mistake as it's now raining. Masses of crocuses coming up, didn't realize I'd planted so many.

  • You are lucky to have the crocuses @Lizzie27 , between the Blackbirds and the Squirrels I don't seem to have one coming up!

I thought that as well. We have squirrels and they have yanked out and eaten some but have left the rest for some reason.

Yes I've set some perennial herbaceous seeds. Managed to dash out in a break from the heavy rain that's been coming down all day here.

Yesterday was decent - cleared and mulched the last of my perennial beds. Temporarily potted up some canna and dahlia tubers that arrived much earlier than I was expecting, and potted on a couple of aeoniums overwintering in the greenhouse.

This morning cut back all Group 3 clematis, then rearranged some pots that might have been prone to blow over in this evening's storm.
  • I went into the garden to see if my Cornus Alba needing cutting back... tempted but not quite yet (no buds showing).
Sowed a small tray of Laurentia instead.

Had a potter over lunchtime.  Pulled up about 400,000 bittercress seedlings and "combed" a few of my grasses (with my gloved hand)
