Been in greenhouse and shortened the table in there as it's been too big. Now it sits across the central path and gives me room to plant either side of it. Am planning to put clematis netting across the roof, thankyou @Pete.8 for the idea, to grow cucumbers on. Then helped hubby move some more rubbish from the demo of shed and had to empty the water butt so it could be moved , yes I did use the water. Did some weeding of the gravel area out front. Then rain stopped play.
  • The weather has turned even stormier here, so inside this afternoon, however this morning I managed to thin out some foxglove seedlings which I had sown directly into the soil last Autumn.  We also moved a clematis into a deeper hole - hopefully it will climb up the tree eventually.  I also planted another echium - so now I have a group of three close together. All three were self seeded last summer and potted on over the winter - all approx 6 inches tall now.

GD , always like it plants self seed , I think it shows they like that position
  • Yes, that is true GWRS, the echiums re-seed in the most inhospitable places with little or very poor soil.  It is like Budehlia that grows on road verges, in gutters and tips etc. The bees go mad for the plants which is why I grow so many of them.

Guernsey Donkey2  Just looked at these they are a must have for me. I really like Echium Candicans Fastuosum Pride of Madeira Flower colour. We want something tall but not a tree.

Tied in a climbing rose 'Jasmina' which is sprouting like mad, but is very prickly. Pruned a bit more of our mixed hedge, at this rate there won't be much left. Dug down a bit around the box bush stump but think we'll just have to get the chainsaw out and saw it off level - it's touching the wall at the back so no chance of digging it out.

Make sure you get the stiff plastic netting @purplerallimI don't think thin loose netting would work. This is the stuff I use.
At the end of the season I just roll it up and tie it, then roll it back down again when I'm ready to plant my cucumber.
Good luck and look forward to comparing notes later in the season

@Guernsey Donkey2.  I had three Echiums doing very nicely until the Sawfly found them. Don't know where they came from. Now they are stunted at the growing point.
Leaving them with very little hope. Will no doubt pull them out before long.  Do love them but too late to start again this year.
Definitely not a day for gardening with such bad weather.  :(
