@AnniD sometimes I think Mrs Wilderbeast would go along with that idea, the garden mess does seem to make through the entire house 😮. She is getting 2 very nice group 3 clematis plants from Taylor's, 1 is nearly black the other is creamy yellow (her favourite colour) and gets to 4mt so hopefully it'll look the business
  • I would accept compost , especially now as hubby can't get anything as he can't drive with a broken shoulder ( I don't drive)
I too am holding back on planting, but not for much longer as I usually start with the tomatoes after my birthday on the 20th. 😁

Thanks @tuikowhai34, I bought some in Gamm Vert just yesterday! I should have looked in LeClerc first! I did think about it!

.....then this afternoon, I went to the nursery to get some more onion plugs and inadvertently  bought 18 more lettuce plants which I promptly planted and they are now safely under plastic, hidden from the 2 pigeons that seem to live on the lamp post just on the other side of my wall!

Never mind @floralies   We had brilliant weather today but tomorrow; rain is forecast.  Still mild though.

A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

Busy morning, I've finished the shuttering for the greenhouse base and narrowed in the the compost. Did now while the garden is frozen and I've made no mess at all. There's between 6 and 10 inch of homemade compost gone in, I've about 1 bin full of finished compost left from the last year's production.

I've got a bag of unopened compost leaning on the shed door. It's frozen solid and stuck to the floor and the shed door.

Not inviting conditions to be doing much in this morning :o

However, managed a bit of tidying up and chopped down some bushes. Will leave any digging out of the roots for a while though :D

Desperate to get ourside and sort out the area for a new raised bed but it's so cold that I think I might freeze to death if I do.

Ditto @Yviestevie, and now it's trying to snow horizontally!

  • I'm going to stay indoors today and repot my Monstera which is threatening to take over the dining room. I will encourage it. Am kicking myself slightly that I didn't take cuttings of my melianthus major. I think it has been the main casualty of the recent weather, which is a shame.

We have rain on the cards later today and the temperatures will reach a balmy 11 degrees this week. Things are looking up.

I normally put a heater in the greenhouse on a frost free setting but didn't bother this year.  I suspect I may have lost some of my tender perennials but none are irreplaceable.   Much too wet and windy to be out there today but tomorrow looks more promising so organising the new raised bed area will just have to wait.
