I decided to do a clean up and ended up dealing with a right stink! Don't have a garden shed so I keep my plant feeds, soil improvers etc in a large plastic bin by the back door. As I've only managed to start off the garden the last week or so, I had not lifted the bin lid at all since end of last year. Everytime I've ventured out the door I had thought that a neighbour must have a blocked drain. Not so - she says shamefacedly. Turns out, for goodness knows how long, the rain has been getting in a crack I hadn't noticed in the bin lid. Everything inside was swimming in foul stinking goo - sodden packets of bone meal, fish blood and bone, grass seed, a big burst packet of water retaining crystals. The stench was overpowering and spending time fishing out the sodden stuff and goo and then finding somewhere to pour the gunk away was a hilarious effort. Cleaned the bin several times and hoping with it open to the air over night it will stink less and get used for something else.
Had to laugh though. First full sunny day and instead of getting on with the 'nice' jobs like planting up pots - it was stinkville, keeping my head down and assuring a neighbour 'it's all in hand and will be gone tomorrow'. Couldn't believe how bad it was. Lesson learned though. New storage space priority.
I've been shearing back the extra long grass in the lawns (long because I fed a couple of weeks ago), ready for mowing. The sunflowers are planted, climbing french beans sown, sweet peas tied in again, echium blue bedder planted out and lots and lots of weeding.
Today filled four tubs with bedding plants and one hanging basket. Moved four cucumbers and four tomatoes outside, and took the closhe off the carrot and beetroot. Repotted a couple of other things, and planted the last of the sweetpeas. Thats half way, rest tomorrow. 🥵🥵
Hi just wondering if a new person can but in. I have moved out my tomatoes today but it’s ridiculously hot do you think they’ll be scorched they are shaded a little by next doors tree.
Got the rest of my plants in, at the Allotment. Now I have outdoor tomatoes, climbing beans, french and runners, courgettes , coriander, flat leaf parsley, and more lettuce. As my dear father always said they have 2 chances, they will either grow or do the other thing.
Loads of dirty work - lasagne making compost. Pulling up loads of weeds, ivy. Still have to dig up rubbish hardly geranium that I thought were desirable but they arent and they aren't easy to dig out either. Planted four runner beans out in the border behind the rhubarb. My next garden will be much smaller...
Thanks for your comment and help. I will just wait and see if the toms grow or not in the heat .Can’t believe it 14 deg yesterday and 27 deg today it’s just mad weather .Plants don’t know what they’re at !
