Came back from work to find my hydrangeas were wilting. So I gave them a good drenching, and 5 minutes afterwards it started raining. Now, 3 hours later, it's still raining!
Finally planted out my sweetcorn and onions. Still have the leeks and peas to plant out, as well as sow my runner beans. I am just a little bit late with everything this year! Not sure if it is worth persevering.
@Joyce Goldenlily - interesting hearing about your cactus on steroids. I have a plant which sounds similar but I thought it was called Queen of the night. It literally only flowers for one night in the year. I’ve never seen it flower yet though, it’s huge so stays in the conservatory, I might move it to see if it will bud up one day or I need to prune it.
garden-wise, I’ve tried to edge the borders since we’ve had some rain but still a way to go yet. I’m trying the no edging method.

Hi, Becareful. I put mine outside earlier as recomended and all 3 plants have sunburn so have moved them back in the conservatory. Also, the flower bud has dropped off.
I ventured forth armed with machete and secateurs to tackle the veg. bed where I want to plant out my peas. For some time I have had my eye on a particularly tall flowering "rape seed" plant. When I reached it, it turned out to be a parsnip which I had missed. It is over 6ft tall and full of small yellow flowers, the first time I have seen a fully mature parsnip. The globe artichokes are just about ready to harvest, I thought I had lost them all last year but there are some lovely young ones that have weathered the storms we had during the autumn and winter which have made really healthy young plants. I haven't uncovered the rhubarb yet, it is in there somewhere because I picked some earlier. It is lovely living in a beautiful county like Cornwall but boy do the weeds grow huge.
Slain some jasmine which was getting fighty with the bamboo, topped up the soil in the 'how are you even alive?' patch, staked an astrantia which I think is not getting on with some toadflax neighbours, beheaded some floral deaders, and watered everything because the weather says 'dry all week at least', which means it'll bucket down by morning. 😁
Potted up a really pretty rubeccia and some “leftovers “ into a nice big tub that had tobacco plants in that had taken over the world….. and just looked untidy…. I think I’m finally found homes for all the “one of this and one of that” that were left from the seedlings🤪
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
Did a summer prune of the grapes in the greenhouse and the ones outdoors. Picked some more globe artichokes, broad beans, radishes and salad leaves. Planted out some very miserable dwarf french beans and peas. They really haven't done well this year.
Relaid a stepping stone in the flower bed which gave me enough room to plant a scabious. Also planted an Armeria, and dug up a Vinca which l divided and potted up.
The soil is so dry, in an ideal world l would dig everything up and dig in a load of compost from the bins come the late Winter but just the thought of it wears me out. Autumn plants such as Heleniums are starting to come into flower which is a bit disconcerting.
