Just to confirm my total saddo status today I got excited when my replacement wheel barrow arrived 😀😀 (it's a special wheel and they've been out of stock for 4months). Up early and turned the last of 4 compost bins, I'm now all sorted again to be able to move each bin in line to an empty bin (compost heaven).
We picked all of the Victoria plums, this is a young tree but it fruits brilliantly with very few maggots this year. By night fall various members of the family have made about 30 jars of jam. The damson tree is also laden but they aren't ready yet. Got out the tall steps and picked all the ripe apples again loads of fruit, any slight damaged apples are been cooked up immediately while all the perfect ones are going to be stored and see if they'll keep.
Father in law brought a load of compost material so that went in the heap.
@Biglad wish we could get paint to do our fence but the ducks back range has stopped production till next year apart from a grey copse. We want black.
Was out early in the the rain. Collected the overnight windfall apples with all none perfect going into the compost, did the same with the damson tree any falling at the moment have plum moth maggots so not savers.
Went down to the neighbours orchard for a couple of barrows of apples, they aren't any good just tiny things that neither cook or store well. I put them in my compost and they cook up great in there. Turned a compost bin with all the apples and the father I'm law's waste.
Watered up some pots of large plants that require planting out but not had time yet.
Going roofing now and yes it's still pouring with rain 🌧️
Yesterday I turned a bin of compost while adding lots of lupin tops (we've had a mass outbreak of lupin aphids). Planted 6 kniphoias which were gifted from sister in law, moved an alchemila mollis to the new mollis hedge. Moved a snowball bush from my tropical area (Mrs Wilderbeast insisted it go there originally) and planted a Rheum in its place.
Over the weekend. Cut back alot of tomato plant leaves, picked french beans, dug up the rest of the main crop potatoes. The biggest job was picking the last of the plums, lots of plums. Some of this went into making jam, some frozen halfs and the rest went to the neighbours. Thats a total of 38lb from the tree this year 🤯 wow.
I'm doing a trial with beet, of which I have about 10 overgrown in my Microveg wall.
Half have gone into pots to stay outside then come into the conservatory. Half have gone into the raised bed just to see what happens.
Today will be installing the new grow lights for the microveg, with the aim of getting 200g of veggies per tray, sewing the next lot, gathering apples and pears and doing a bit of jam, and experimenting with the tomatoes in the hope that they grow a little more. Half will be sung the Tomato Song, the other half will be threatened with Carter-Ruck.
“Rivers know this ... we will get there in the end.”
