Went to the Allotment, in spite of the rain soil is quite dry at a fork depth, decided to dig spuds before the slugs get them all.

    A bit of tidying up today, Lets see;

    Hoed the beds
    Trimmed lavender
    Trimmed rosemary
Trimmed spiraea japonica (still had dead flowers on)
    Dead headed rose and dahlia
    Cutback some brambles
Put spent potato compost on lavender beds and raised beds (lots of life in there)
Swept up some of the branches and mulch from the front garden
    Weeded half the driveway
Gathered up all this into the brown bin for council composting

Will wait until its drier to harvest the onions and shallots, and mow the long grass areas.  I realise Inshould have done this last week! 😅

Turned 3 full compost bins very today, all the mown meadow grass went in on Monday and it's tough to get this breaking down fast and it needs lots of attention and water. Collected fallen apples peeled, stewed and froze them. We have huge crop this year but the tree needs a real prune. Mowed the meadow area to make it tidier and to get it much shorter. Dead headed and dreamed of rain, while some have had more than they want it's missed us totally. Cut a lovely mix of flower's for Mrs Wilderbeast, it was our 12th wedding anniversary today, took them in and did breakfast in bed she was delighted ☺️☺️

Yes indeed @purplerallim and today I was allowed to treat myself to 6 5ft delphiniums from our local nursery, sometimes I do manage to get things to work for me 🤣🤣

    Happy belated anniversary @Wilderbeast :)
As it's finally stopped raining (for now), got out in the front garden and dug out a white salvia, kniphofia and very small hardy geranium and potted them up.
Also dug out dead stuff and an agastache that had given up the ghost. In spite of the amount of rain it was still very dry about 6 inches down, but it is in a rain shadow.  Dug out the worst of the soil and will dig in some top soil before planting up with shrubby salvias in due course.
They should do okay there as it's very dry and sunny and quite sheltered, and other salvias are doing well. Will take cuttings as insurance though.
More deadheading and also dug up a large geum in back garden. Split some sections from the outside edges and potted them up as well.

The imminent doom still seems to be holding off but I've retired to the front room to consume some sport after a bit of fiddling in the garden earlier. Shoulder is giving me some grief which probably confirms that I'm not cut out to be a gravedigger!

Planted 3 shrubby salvias and a hardy geranium in the front garden, and another shrubby salvia "out back".
Pricked out aquilegias, and potted on bellis daisies and some agastache. Took some cuttings from penstemon "Garnet".
We had fog this morning, a heavy shower at lunchtime , and now the sun's shining.

I bought some bulbs from B&M (saw them outside when I was passing so I stopped). Best bought when fresh in as they disappear pretty quickly.
No actual gardening today - next door are having a new fence put in along our boundary which involves taking out the privet hedge which is actually on our side (discussed with us and agreed beforehand). I went out first thing to have a look and a quick chat about how they were going about it, but I didn't want to be outside and have the poor chaps feel like I was watching them. Nowt worse when you're trying to get on with a job. There will be a bit of clearing up and soil improvement to do in a day or two when the fence is finished. Plan is to spread the compost from the bin in the strip where the privet was our side of the new fence, and then see how it pans out next year (it will be a bit shadier so might need to rethink some planting).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
