  • Yesterday I washed down my greenhouse, potted Begonias, planted Tomato and Castor bean seed, then biked down to the river to feed Chickadees, Nuthatches and Woodpeckers some peanuts.
  • Ground too cold and wet to work today, but sowed sweet peas and beans.

Here’s a picture of a daffodil, one of those bunches that you buy in the supermarket this time of year.

Blowing a glow from the frozen wastes of Russia today but wind does not stop play 😃 . Planted 2 clematis (valentine's pressies for Mrs Wilderbeast), a dozen primulas, 2 hellebore Anna's red (mother's Day pressies) . Dug up 3 huge clumps of heucheras, split them and buried much deeper. The heucheras are a favourite but they do take a lot of care to dig up and rebury every year.
  • Did some more pruning today, mostly heucheras. Regrettably disturbed a few sleeping ladybirds but did my best to find them somewhere else to shelter. I did try putting them on the ladybird hotel but they didn't seem wildly interested. One did venture into one of the holes but was quickly pounced on by a spider that had taken up residence there 😮 Fortunately I was quick enough to free it and I rehomed it in a fern that I won't be pruning for another month. I know spiders have to eat but I've just got my first rose and I'm going to need ladybirds!

Also managed to break a plastic handfork which wasn't a great surprise but definitely inconvenient.

@GWRS was that indoor or outdoor? I didn't have a problem getting the basil to germinate, just didn't get much return for the effort. Maybe I got the growing medium wrong, will try again!!

After dropping flowers etc to mum I got back into the garden and totally rearranged the veg section. Going for a much more cottage feel with lots of perennials growing in amongst each other rather than just rigid raised beds (though I have kept a couple of those too!!)
I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

@februarysgirl, the ladybirds in my garden seem to love nesting in old tights that I use as garden ties for the hellebores etc.

I agree that any warmth seems to be bringing out ladybirds, I wonder if the glut of aphids last year has caused a population explosion,  hope so 😄

I'd have felt awful if the spider had been successful. First of all it gets disturbed from its sleep and then almost gets eaten. I've seen a lot more about than I was expecting.

I'd really hoped they would have snuggled up in the ladybird hotel but something else took over. Might have to try something like old tights!
