    Think creative, I got an old shower screen and an old window off Freecycle, both of which I used as a cold frame lid for a time. Keep an eye on skips in your area as well, you often find old windows in them. Corrugated plastic sheets aren't that expensive, B & Q used to do them.

    Find a local double glazing manufacturer they often have units that have come out of old windows. My supplier has people scrambling through his waste gear every weekend before he slips everything on a Monday morning

    My august garden is struggling, but better than last year on the whole I hope from the additional mulching, hoeing and watering.

    That's a stunner! I think you may have just heightened my ambitions!!! My main issue at the moment is where to get the lid from on a tight budget. I'm trying freecycle, etc. but may have to bite the bullet and spend some £££s.

    @Biglad Not too easy to get perspex at minute as most shops buying them up for screens - I got mine free can't remember where from neighbour maybe, I like to do a lot of skip diving for free things after asking if ok to have, like others said window or shower screen

    Thanks @Wilderbeast Good to have a bigger skip fit it all in, Lots that can be made with pallets still doing my pallet shed on allotment plot at minute
    I have made pallet - benches, planters, potting bench, cold frames, bug houses and sheds

    @FlyDragon like the bench so pretty

    @joex really nice pictures

  • I've just been out and done half an hour in the shade - definitely a mistake: (dividing and transplanting some cowslips). BBC says 32 degrees here, our garden thermometer in the shade says 36. I'm dripping now.

  • I made a pallet cold frame it has done really well - was on a pallet thread on here long time ago and not sure you can see the pictures now

    That is beautiful. Wow!

    Not as hot as forecast fortunately but even so, didn't do much. Deadheaded phlox and roses, picked veg for dinner and OH pruned more off the cherry trees.

    Dead headed roses and repotted and staked sweet peppers ( grown from seed of a bought pepper so goodness knows if I will get anything) picked more tomatoes.  Didn't realise how many I'd picked this weekend until I weighed them 3lbs.😁
