Fed and watered all the clematis in pots, potted up last of the dahlias into a "posh pot". Watered all the newly planted stuff and baskets by using watering cans . No hosepipe ban yet, but l'm practising. OH brought back what l'm fairly sure is a potted Skimmia from his mother's garden. What leaves are left are a pale yellow and the compost was dry as a bone, so l reduced the rootball by half, repotted it and gave it a good water and feed. Weeded out the cracks in the paving , then was driven in doors as neighbour had 2 guys round operating petrol powered hedgecutters and l couldn't hear myself think (they did check the shrubs for bird's nests which was something).
I've obviously now got the 'hacking back' syndrome. After pruning my clematis alpina a few days ago, I've now had a go at my clematis cirrhosa 'Freckles' which is on a 6'x6' trellis between the front terrace and side courtyard. It was over 2' wide and about 7' high so it's had a good haircut, probably should have done that one earlier as well but the weather wasn't favourable then. Now have 3 trugfulls of prunings for the compost bin.
No gardening today , keep getting rain showers Did pop up to allotment , took old hanging baskets, will see if I can replant any of the pansies in new border , also some used compost which I put into compost bins
I have found the birds at homes not eating many peanuts 🥜 , so bought a new holder for allotment , see if they like them better
No gardening, rain has bee steady all day. Not sure but looks like we may get another couple of days of it at least. Can't complain though, some grass seed we put down in a couple of bare patches has germinated, even the roadside verges around here had turned brown with the lack of rain in May. Rain is good and desperately needed, but have to be honest, would like to be outside in the garden rather than stuck indoors.
Planted out ox eye daisy's and some scabious that was donated by the in-laws, they've gone in the meadow area. Planted a hydrangea into our new little shady garden. While the forum has been down I bought a 5ft thrachycarpus fortunei, weighed more than me (mind I've lost 1 1/2 stone in lock down) and nearly killed me getting in and planted.
Been trying the get the lawn looking a bit better over the last few weeks. It’s had a weed treatment, then a light scarify and finally today a good feed. I don’t want rain to stop the enjoyment of a warm day but I do actually need some now to really help the grass.
Hi all not done much, just been out and collected 30ish snails off 2 lupins, they have been prepared for the hedgehogs supper !!! Dead headed said lupins earlier and some roses, picked my 1st broad beans (so tasty), removed a cardoon which succumbed to the storms (it's only ever this patch that has problems standing). Turned a bin of compost.
No gardening as such. Did manage to get a slot at the tip, so could cut up the fence that came down in the winds in March?🤔 but only half gone as a fair bit of woodworking done by hubby. Did feed the tomatoes. 😁 P.s. It did take two weeks to get a slot as they only take wood on a Friday.
