@batwood14, there was a query about bramble removing in the paper today and the 'expert' suggested you dig down about 20 cms if possible until you see some pink shoots starting to grow from the base, which you then sever from below the pink shoots, if that makes sense. He/she said it would not then be able to re-grow. Not sure if this works but might be worth a try.
In the last 3 days I have finally managed to a) cut the grass front & back, b) Prune back some more of the herbaceous perennials c) do some digging on the Allotments. All in short bursts before the rain started yet again each day.
Hey - @Allotment Boy did you blow dry your lawn first or were you in in a spot where no rain occurs
Got a fair bit done this morning feel like I am getting back in control after all the wet weather. All roses and clematis now pruned. I still have to FBB the borders and mulch.
@batwood14 not at all but we managed nearly 36 hours without rain so I grabbed the chance. The ground was a lot softer than I would have liked you could see wheel marks in a couple of places when I finished but it had to be done. It hadn't been cut since last November, not an issue if we had had a proper cold winter, but it's been so mild it has not really stopped growing.
Not sure it counts but I fixed the lawn mower (damaged by an old pitch fork hidden in longer grass by son number 2, gotta love em), fixed new wheel to the barrow, pruned very hard some gigantic climbing/rambling roses, mowed up all the perennial prunings and mixed it all into my compost heap. Wandered with a large brew and admired it all
Four days and the little jem lettuce are up. Yesterday trimmed back half the flamenco willow will try to finish that today, but not sure I can reach the top!😅
Pruned my Cornus sibirica 'Midwinter Fire' but then had to lug three large armfuls up to the top of the garden to dump it on the (increasingly big) pile for shredding.
I am considering using some of the thinner straight long red stems as border hoop restraints but a bit worried if I do that straight away, they might root themselves. I think I need to do it while they're still pliable but when would be best?
