I got very high germination from didiscus so I think you’ll have no trouble. From memory, I think they need darkness for germination so you need to be alert. Take the cover off a couple of days too late and you’ll have very spindly specimens. I have two lots in pots and two lots in open ground. The pot grown ones are better - taller and more floriferous. Several in the ground disappeared; I expect snails were the culprit.

They are quite slow to bloom compared, say, to cosmos. Sown at about the same time, cosmos were in bloom much earlier. I only saw didiscus in flower from mid August.

Thankyou for the information on the didiscus @Picidae, very helpful indeed. I am definitely going to grow them next year. I adore flowers in that blue colour range. August blooms are very welcome . The didiscus can take over when the agapanthus are all finished .

It is gorgeous ... so pretty ... a really clear pink and flowers on and on and on. Lush foliage and disease resistant. I’ve grown it in three gardens. It’s also great to cut for indoors.

Its only drawbacks are that that it tends to flop so needs some support, and it only has a slight perfume.
