Various shades of relief going on here. Punkdoc, hope Moira recovers well, she is in good hands. Recovering myself after biopsy under general anaesthetic mid-week, will find out results in a week or so but it is looking better than I feared
Getting back to gardening - our neighbours have been granted permission for works on 9 beech trees on our southern boundary. Crown lifting and reduction and a trim all round plus removal of one tree completely (dangerous fungus). We all managed a coordinated approach for a complex application - the trees belong to two neighbours and both their gardens are covered by an area TPO dating from 1961. Surrounding neighbours submitted supporting comments too. Now we have to find out how much it is all going to cost! Maybe that's where we all become the neighbours from hell. If all the work gets done we will be safer and have a bit more light which means more gardening opportunities.
Glad your news is slightly more encouraging Steephill. The hospital would have changed Moira's dressings today, but it is a 20 mile round trip across the city, with the possibility of a long wait, so we decided I could manage them; which luckily I have, although I found it rather uncomfortable! [ Moira on the other hand was fine and called me a wimp. ]
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
It must be hard doing that job on someone you love, @punkdoc. Glad things are going well for you both.
@steephill - fingers crossed that your news is good following the biopsy...
Boiler is working for now. Its water pressure valve has stopped working, so we thought it was operating at normal pressure of 1.5 bar, which was what the indicator said. Not enough water in the boiler to keep it going. Hopefully the valve won't be too expensive...
Anyway, the marmalade is going well and the house smells lovely!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
When I went to visit him in Zambia once, my dad had to give me my cholera and yellow fever booster cos the nurse (gay) didn't want to hurt a teenage Obxx. Years later in Manchester he fell up an escalator and gashed his knee. Huge queue in A&E so he asked for needle and thread and stitched himself so he could go home.
Marmalade making here too Liri and, like you, lovely pongs wafting about. I've got Possum shredding the peel while I have a decaf and check the recipe for tonight's vegan feast.
Steephill - fingers crossed for good news next week. I have a friend in a similar position so I know it can be a nervous wait. Good luck with those trees too.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Managed to sneak in a cheeky bike ride before the rain swept in 🚲
Also counted birds - good tally this year. They spent most of the time chasing each other off the feeders ...no such thing as an orderly queue here 🙄
Glad you are more optimistic Steephill, fingers crossed for good news next week 🤞🏻
Really pleased Moira is doing so well - hope you (and Hosta/Josta) sleep better tonight.
Just ordered a winter honeysuckle from Crocus, having had a futile scout round the local garden centres. Decided our back door needs some scent (its not very beautiful out there, so I don’t mind its scrubby nature). Front door is well catered for by the daphne, which is doing its thing brilliantly at the moment. Get a noseful every time I head out to the car .....yum 😋🤥
evening all, Glad Moira is being well looked after Pdoc 😊 Best wishes for good news Steephill 😊 also like the sound of a new area of garden to develop, the extra light from moving the yestr should give you lots of options! Hope the boiler gets fixed soon Lirio 😊 Hello Chicky, love the sound of winter honeysuckle and looking at plant porn but can't see space in the garden for all the scruffiness at the moment 🤔 Obellixx, your Dad sounds like he was a no nonsense route of gentleman 😁 hello Dove, 😊 got brother Womble with OH and step womble waiting for dauphinoise potatoes and roast chicken with greens, I'm having some peace and quiet away from them all! 😉 Hello Hosta, hope your well, hope to catch up on her a bit more and see how everyone's gardens are growing and plans for the seasons ahead! I'm racing snowdrops against purple crocus at the moment, neither can bring themselves to actually open. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
Glad Moira's operation went well and she's home. How things have changed since I was a nurse, no keyhole surgery then.
Steephill sounds hopeful, I hope the results are good for him.
I've been very busy the last couple of days. Very pleased with the new kitchen, cooker is so much better on the other wall and it gives me a decent bit of work surface where it was before. Good to have new sockets and wall cupboards with under lighting. I will do the tiling and painting on our next visit.
We went to Norwich today for lunch and the theatre. We had lunch in an Italian place, bit disappointing. OH's pizza said artichokes but he couldn't see any, waitress said they were pureed in the tomato sauce but he couldn't taste them. My cheesy chicken pasta with pancetta and red peppers had 3 small slices of chicken and 2 bits of red pepper. Then we went to Guys and Dolls which we enjoyed, well done. Rush hour was dreadful on the way home, diversions all over the place.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Glad Moira got home straight away pdoc. Hope her recovery is just as trouble free.
Best wishes for Steephill. Patients have to be patient. It's never easy.
A cold snap is looming - I hope the boiler keeps working Liri.
The rest of you seem to have all been cooking and shopping, so that's OK.
I went to a local auction viewing today, looking for some garden furniture and found all sorts of "oh look, that would be useful" stuff. I'm in London on the day of the auction, so OH is going to be in charge of bidding on line. I suspect we'll either end up with a huge load of junk because he gets trigger happy or nothing at all because he can't be bothered.
I'm trying to decide what sort of cake to make myself for my birthday next week - carrot or lemon drizzle or clementine and almond? Any preference?

Have you had any of those before RG? If so, try one you haven't or the one you know is great. I'm in the mood for clementine and almond or else chocolate carrot cake but can't until the 1st of Feb.

Yes, I've made them all before. I can't use chocolate - has to be soya free and most bar chocs have soya (except the one they used to advertise with a lorry driver, which I doubt would be suitable for cooking). I can get really expensive soya free stuff that would work but then I'd rather just eat it.
