  • Fran Ah,that's sweet, they get very attached to their toys, his face is a picture.

Anni I never looked here yesterday, but love the bouncers conducting an interview, and that lovely cat with the big spider. I don't think Cush would have eaten it either, delicious though it looked 😊

    I'm deadheading everyday weather allowing.

Home Bargains mixed bulbs aren't worth bothering with,I opened a box of Alliums and tiny daffs, very weird as they had two cell trays and compost to fill them,so presumably you aren't meant to put them straight in the garden? I expect there were more Daffs than Alliums anyway!

@Fran IOM  The look of horror on that dog's face  !

Have been out in the garden.  Started off deadheading and then went mad cutting down stuff , the grasses and sedums can now be seen more clearly. Was going to take some photos when l finished, but rain stopped play - hooray !
(Apologies to those who are sick of the sight of rain, but l really need it )
We have rain forecast for most of Monday,  but by the time we get there something tells me it will have been reduced to just a tiny "plink!" in the bird bath and that will be that 🙄. I have been lugging watering cans around watering all the newly planted stuff.

@Valley Gardener l don't know why there are cell trays in with the bulbs, never seen that before.  Don't think l have ever grown bulbs on to plant out, l have only done that when they have finished flowering, if l want to keep them. Don't know if you have a branch of "The Range" near you, they usually have a good selection of the usual types of bulbs. I must have a look there myself next week.......
  • No we don't have one close by,which I would love,so it looks like B+Q again, the GC was quite expensive, though they had the bags to fill with the big daffs.
I'd like a few more Daffs for spring colour, but also want more Alliums, they put on a lovely long show, and the seed heads were so attractive,I left them till they fell down!

This will be my one and only purchase for next year:

I am hoping the tubs behind the shed will give me a decent second year display when I haul them out and de-weed them. What a cheapskate 😀.

@Purplerain Do you really expect us to believe you?
@AnniD At least you managed to get something done before the rain came. You're wishing for it and I wish it would stay away.
@Valley Gardener Did you actually buy the bulbs or just open them in the shop? Seems a rather weird setup.
I actually got to the allotment this afternoon. The weather certainly has made an improvement. Nearly finished the outside fuchsia hedge. Will only take a short time tomorrow to tidy up. Then attacked the privet so a little more of that has been done. Have started weeding the beds and cutting down the plants that are long past their best. One plant which I think is Alchemilla has really spread and seems to be self seeding everywhere. The roots are quite hard to dig up. Feel as though now I may be able to get on top of all the jobs that need doing as long as we get more decent weather.
When I was doing the fuchsia hedge just outside I received a phone call and after put the phone in my back pocket then decided to find out what the time was so got it out again and couldn't think what I was pulling out with it only to find it was a massive bee!
Must have been on me and I pushed it in my pocket with the phone. It was very lethargic so took it inside and put it on one of the potted plants. It spent most of its time just walking around. May have damaged its wings but think in the end it may have flown off as it disappeared. Never did find out what the time was. Come 4pm a very heavy shower so was time to pack up but at least I had achieved something. Sorry if I have bored you but not much else to report.
Think the weather forecast for tomorrow is continual sunshine.  :)

    @Purplerain, not a cheapskate, merely prudent 😁
That reminds me that l must check over my pots of last year's bulbs that are hidden behind the green house. I only kept a couple back as they were pretty narcissi (can't remember the variety offhand).

Well done on rescuing that poor bee @Fran IOM, it must have wondered what was happening!
I rescued one the other day that flew into a spider's web. The spider shot out and by the time l'd broken the web, the poor honey bee was cocooned in it. I thought l was too late, it was hanging off the end of my secateurs, then the strangest thing happened.  It started to rotate and untangle itself , and as the web "string" got longer l managed to break/snip it off with the secateurs.
Eventually,  with a lot of buzzing, it extracted itself and flew away. It was fascinating to watch, but l think it was lucky l happened to be there to break the web.
Glad that your forecast looks good today 🤞.

@Valley Gardener, you should get a reasonable selection in B&Q. I love those allium seedheads, they always remind me of fireworks.
I wonder if that really will be the only pack of bulbs that @Purplerain buys.....🤔

My tomatoes have finally decided to get on with ripening at last.

Meanwhile, Percy has decided he likes the bath /shower combo

  • Mmmm! Lovely toms Anni, ripening off nicely now. Love the pic of Percy,I don't ever recall seeing a pigeon bathing! It must be yearly bath time as there was a chaffinch in the bath yesterday, with a queue of sparrows waiting their turn.
Fran I opened the box as I wanted to check that I wasn't buying all Tete a Tete, and hardly any Alliums, the bulbs were all tiny. But I thought why would anyone want the cells and compost?  Eskimos perhaps?
I'm getting the ones like Purplerain.......big fat Allium bulbs that put on a good display!
    B+Q  here I come!

Lovely toms @AnniD. I think they have been slow this year but I hope you enjoy them. The tumbling toms I have are the gift that keep on giving! Everyone is fed up with my generosity when it comes to my bagfuls. They don't mind growing outdoors in Scotland which is quite amazing.

I was swinging (as you do) and a great big bee kept sitting on my lap as if it wanted to make friends 😉. I kept directing it back to the lavender but I think they are all getting a bit dozy now, which would account for the bee in the pocket and the bee in the web.

Good luck with the Alliums @Valley Gardener . Mine are a smaller drumstick style but I do love the big fat ones so I hope you get what you are looking for. Enjoy your evening all.
