My small contribution to the milkman thread here. When I started going to England (as a student of English) I discovered what looked to me as a typical British institution, the milkman going on their rounds in the morning. A little later on I started a collection of slides (photographs) of "typical" British life scenes, and of course the milkman's van was one of them. The photographs below probably date back to the late 1960s or early 1970s. I also had one of an electric kind of van/wheelbarrow? dragged by the milkman (on foot) but cannot find it right now.
Going back to milk deliveries - when I was a child our milk was delivered by horse and cart as well. Every day of the week including Christmas Day (Even the postman delivered on Christmas Day) in all weathers. The piebald horse was named Betty and if she left anything behind it would be on someone's garden pretty soon after. Still have a photo of her which my late sister took as she had a passion for horses.
Husbands!! Why do they not listen? Told him in December the CH fuel was getting low and we should order before prices went up. No, no need, despite a special offer on the go.
Reminded him again at the beginning of Jan and said I didn't want to risk running out and getting an air lock. No, no need just yet.
Last week he finally said, OK, order some now. Delivery next Tuesday. Fine.
Today, get home from a lovely day out and not a drop of fuel left so house is cold. Both log fires now lit and hot water OK as that's leccy and there's a leccy heater in the bathroom but guess who won't be happy if we do have an air lock and then need to wait for, and pay, a CH engineer to fix it. OH yes, and freezing weather and possible snow in store in the next few days.
Bloody husbands!

Never mind. He'll admit that he may have been wrong and then expect you to sort it out with a minimum of inconvenience. At least that's what mine does. Every woman needs a wife.
