  • I think a hard border does make a difference, Obelixx.  The sensitivities over the border question go back a long way, and are still present.  All sides are trying at all costs to avoid a hard border so there is clearly agreement that this is important.  You only have to look back at the problems over the border crossings in the Troubles to see why, surely.  "For the good of all", we should avoid Brexit at all costs...

  • Sorry, Raisingirl, I didn't see your post before writing mine.  You put it better than I could!

I know all that RG but still wonder if that means it's reasonable or rational for them to hold others to ransom while they cling to old prejudices.

Northern Ireland's population is well under 2 million people.   The United Kindom's population is well over 66 million.   I just don't see why the inability of those few to live peacefully in the 21st century should so affect the future of the other 64+million.

No, it's not. But unfortunately this is the position TM's disastrous general election performance last year has put us in. A very small group of religious fundamentalists have the power to bring down the entire government if they so chose

I hope he goes the way of all previous stalking horses - to the political knacker's yard.

I can't think of any political leader that I could trust or respect enough to vote for. I hope someone emerges from the dung heap smelling of roses before the next election.
Nevada's voting for a dead senator begins to make sense. At least he couldn't make things any worse.

This is why we need to stay in the EU. There's no one fit to run this country without the European courts breathing down their necks and giving them a clip around the ear now and then.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
