I don't understand how those results help when there could be 100 birds one day and 0 the next day, if I was cynical I'd think that the RSPB just wanted peoples contact details not that they would do it just for that reason I know.

I've just realised that Ireland also runs a Bird Watch.  However, I can't take part this year - it runs over 13 weeks, from the beginning of December to the end of Feb.  You record the maximum number of individuals of a species seen in your garden at the same time, as in Britain, but it's the maximum each week for the 13 weeks.  It's a bit more of a commitment - though a good excuse for looking out of the window for long periods...  "sorry dear, not at the moment, I'm counting birds..."   ;)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

In France it's the weekend of the 11th and 12th of January.

Not long now to get your windows cleaned and your pencils sharpened. The weather isn't looking promising for the weekend though and even with this slight cold snap bird numbers have been lower than usual here for the time of year. The birds are around as I've seen loads in the woods up the road but they're just not visiting my garden as much.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I wonder how many people add interesting birds they saw the other day. It must be awfully  tempting
    In London. Keen but lazy.

My pencil is sharpened (but haven’t gone as far as cleaning the windows 🤫) ....always amazes me how much you do see if you stare out there for an uninterrupted hour 🐤🐦🦉🦅🐧😉

Only if you think of it as some sort of competition ... which it isn’t of course ... it’s research. 😊

    Just done my hour.
    1 Collard dove
    7 Wood pigeon
    2 Robin
    2 Dunnock
    9 House sparrow
    1 Blue tit
    2 Great tit
    4 Black bird
1 Longtailed tit (unusual as they travel in groups)
    1 Sparrow hawk
The last one came just as I was packing up, which chased everything away. They all came back after a quarter of an hour, they must be hungry. 😁
These numbers are up on last year for me.
  • Gonna top up my bird feeders today and do it tomorrow. It’s my first time..I’m a little nervous  :o
