I too tried to ID a bird and it's not playing ball today.
This week has been amazing. First my sighting of a goldcrest and today a new bird to ID.
In among the roses looking for bugs, about the size of a Dunnock, yellowy/green under, brown back with dark tips to wings and tail feathers, small narrow beak, no wing bars or eye stripes, so maybe a Chiffchaff, that's a first

We have wrens here - loads of them. Are they in decline then?

I have seen my resident Wren today, but they are definitely not an every day/garden visitor, so you are lucky to see them in numbers @raisingirl 😁

The website crashed yesterday. I couldn’t log on for ages, and had to change password, but after about an hour I had an email with password link. Then it worked. You will receive an email to say all submitted once done.

My garden and I live in South Wales.

We have at least two breeding pairs about. We get little clouds of baby wrens - just the cutest things. Very sad that they are less common elsewhere - they are one of my favourites to watch - and listen to

My little boy has built a nest in the blue tit box for three years, but it has never been accepted by a female @raisingirl 🙁
  • I got the email saying my results had been submitted so seems to have worked in spite of the error message.
  • I think I might wait a day or so to submit, it sounds as if their site is struggling. We do have wrens here but of course they didn't show up when doing the count.

Possibly but they're generally migrant birds and only a very few stay here during the winter, and that's usually just in southern counties.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I saw a wren for the birdwatch for the first time today. I know they're there, but they're difficult to spot and don't usually turn up in my hour. So that made me happy - as did the redwing.

I disagree that the science has taken a backseat - it's the main purpose of the count, as it always has been. But general awareness raising, fundraising and calls to action have their place too.
