Most charity collectors take the largest cut from any cash collected the charity gets maybe 20% and when operational costs are deducted the dogs/cats/birds get what's left. We support Air Ambulance who have a company collect clothing to sell and which then make a donation to the charity, Air Ambulance don't have anything to do with collecting the clothes other than allowing a company to use their name for a donation in return.
I got a bit miffed when, having trudged up the pedestrianised Hugh Street with a big bag of good quality stuff, the charity asked me for a cash donation as well.
You can order your free pack online or take part online. Hope the weather has warmed up by then as I have to be outside on my allotment/garden or if raining in the shed.
A link for anyone interested https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/ I did the quiz, apparently l am a sparrow 😁. I wonder if the birds will do their usual trick of disappearing for the exact hour that l choose 🙄.

Time to put your big coat on. IOM weather it will be sunshine in one spot or the other
@AnniD. Thanks for the link. Still haven't worked out how to do that. I would like to know where the birds go during that hour too.
@Rubytoo Didn't word that very well did I? I would probably get wet in the shed anyway as I have a serious leak in the roof at the moment. I shall dress accordingly.
If you get zero birds in your pre-selected hour, do what I do: don't start timing the hour until a bird turns up. I realise this might not be possible for some busy people, but as it's the weekend, I daresay most of us can be flexible.
Recently, my feeders have been regularly visited by a thrush, a bird I've rarely seen in the garden in the past.
I will certainly be doing the bird watch, it has become a hobby of mine during this lockdown. In one day in my garden I saw a, woodpecker, Robin, Red Wing and speckled thrush, Coal, Blue, Great and Long tailed Tits, Blackbird, Black cap and a woodpigeon. So lovely and calming.
@AnniD I tried out the quiz and I am a Wood pigeon. Not quite sure how to take that but they do come to the allotment so they must know their own kind. @josusa47 May follow your example but could be there a long time if the birds are having a day off. @Jacqueline29. You would be lucky to see all those birds in an hour but good luck anyway. I shall have trouble counting the goldfinches as they come down in hoards. Taken from RSPB email..
Your blue tits and house sparrows have probably become familiar friends over the last few months, but do you know how many visit your feeders? Is there a tree sparrow hidden in the flock? Could something really unusual be in your garden? Now’s your chance to find out.
