Thanks for the recipe, Phaidra. I love the pictures of
your aunt!
I'm growing my own aubergines this year, so, in a
few weeks' time, I hope to make some of that most delicious aubergine
pickle. My Greek grandmother used to fill large pithoi with that most
amazing of all pickles. (In late summer there's an abundance of
fantastically priced veg in farmers' markets there) and I just love it.
I've not been able to get it in England. You can get Indian stuff but it
has nothing in common with what I'm talking about. I always eat as much
of it as I can when I'm in Greece, but, in the last 2 years, that has not been
possible, thanks to the plague; so, I feel the deprivation keenly.
I know it's quite a lot of hard work but it is
more than worth it!

Last night, I sent the link to a former neighbour of mine, Zoe. She's just replied to thank me and give me the wonderful news that her daughter, after several years of trying, yesterday gave birth to a lovely baby girl. They named her Sophia Mariam. I'm truly delighted for them all!

I think I should too!
Your aunt looks graceful and lovely, even at that young age, Phaidra.

Martin Luther KingDelightful news about the baby! By the way, is the name Mariam a Moslem name?
