She'd spent a lot of time on me over the years, @punkdoc, so it was no more than she deserved. But many people don't get the chance to say goodbye like that - I recognise that we were really lucky.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
To be honest, we don't know if she knew we were there or not, though she did respond a little when we stroked her hair or sang to her. She was unconscious, deeply so at the end. But who knows what she could understand...
We were so fortunate that she was taken to a really lovely hospital, which is consistently voted in the top 6 NHS hospitals for patient satisfaction, and is also regularly named as the best place to work in the NHS. She, and we, were treated with real loving care by all the staff.

Always good to here positive stories about the NHS. I always used to tell relatives of unconscious patients on the ITU to talk to their loved ones, because nobody knows how much they are able to understand.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
To be honest, Punkdoc, I don't have any negative stories to tell about the NHS... any problems I've ever had are down to lack of funding, not the quality of the staff.
Thanks, Chicky. Hugs are lovely!

Ditto, I find those who complain most have contributed least/expect most and I've never heard anyone suggest a better system/funding with which they'd like to see it replaced which will safeguard the poorest who can't afford "insurance".
