The moonlight last night was so bright I could see everything outside. Thanks for the explanation Auntyrach.
lilyp, it’s interesting that you are visiting the places that we learned about in our Crusades lectures recently. I will be interested to see any photos you post when you get back.
Lily - sounds fabulous. Look after your eyes tho. Looking forward to photos.
Hosta - hubby needs some anti-histamine (Boots One-a-Day don't make you sleepy but the same ingredients are available much more cheaply at ALDI) and some cortisone cream and a word with his client about danger money.
Flumpy - fresh yeast or dried? Was it past its sell by? Did you have the water too warm, too much salt? not enough sugar?
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

It was one of those ready made packs where you just add water and knead it twice, then leave it to rise with a damp cloth then put it in the oven (has oven) 🙂

Just had a look and it was in date too, Am I right in thinking you leave the dough over night?, only because on the pack it just said leave for forty minutes, but it didn’t rise much 😬
Morning all/afties Pat - our sky probably isn't clear enough for any moon gazing just now, although we had a nice one with some moody clouds a couple of days ago.
flumpy I used Jamie Oliver's recipe many years ago [I never really make bread] and you could also use it for pizza bases before leaving it to prove further. The girls enjoyed that - we had pizza for the three of us, and a little loaf of bread for a lunch the next day. It was very simple recipe fidget - I can just picture them with the collars on. Wonder if it would work though LP- glad you're having a great time. Glasses for the dust - or does that not help much? Still a bit dark, so I can't see what it's like outside yet - seems to be dry, and the wind's dropped a bit. Fingers crossed it's dry enough to get on outdoors.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
@flumpy1 the rising time depends hugely on the room temperature. The bread I made yesterday took nearly 2 hours to get to the right state because the day was cooler but I didn’t have the heating on. I often make bread ... I’m still in bed on my phone at the moment but if you like I’ll post you a dead simple foolproof recipe when I get up. . When @WonkyWomble and her brother were children I made all our family’s bread. It is simple when you get the hang of it but because yeast is a living growing thing a lot of what we do depends on observing what’s happening ... like plants and gardening
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all. never got on with bread from a packet but making from scratch never had a problem once I got the hang of it proving is the most tricky part temperature seems to be crucial 27°C 80°F seems to be what is always quoted.
Some newer ovens have a setting for this and I must say mine has been great especially on cooler days when you don't want the heating on.
Glad to here your having a great time LP dry and dusty I remember that
Grey morning looks like we might get a shower hope not want to get on with the veg garden today.
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.
I'm debating putting washing out G'sBoy. It's a very dull, overcast day so it might just hang there and do nothing! I've been watching the goldies and other birds on the feeders, and they're hilarious. Not been blown all over the place like yesterday, so they look a bit happier. The young female chaffinch is still a bit wary but she's getting there. We've had hardly any chaffies here in this garden, but there was a male in the other day with a young female and another young male . I'm assuming they're his offspring.

Up again. You'll all be shocked to know, I've never made bread and with Waitrose 1.5miles away, I think I never will.
Seriously Hosta? And there's me thinking you were a regular Paul Hollywood I didn't realise your Waitrose was so near you. I thought you were really out in the sticks. Captured this on the wildlife camera - I'd had my suspicions he'd been digging to get under the fence where the hog tunnel is... Sadly - no hogs, and I captured a bl**dy cat eating the biscuits the night before which explains a lot. I'd had my suspicions about that too. It's only the hogs that use the front garden tunnel though, so I might find a location for the camera in there. Has Spike been back? Is it wrong that there's a blind mallard duck on the Countryfile prog just now, and I laughed because they called it Stevie Wonder ?
