I only popped in briefly, but can’t be sitting here with a son visiting and me playing on my iPad. Wouldn’t be polite. 🙄

morning everyone, might catch up later.

We are waking up later now the mornings are darker.   Not going to bed at sunset tho.

Pat, have a lovely time with your son and his cat.  Busy, hope you had a good day with family yesterday.  Have yet to watch The Cry.   Maybe tomorrow as OH will be out golfing.

Hosta - glad you gota  good sleep.  I've sent you a message on the hosta group but can't help you decide about opera as I'd need ear plugs for any of it.  I like a lower register.

Dove - we get an occasional trickle too but haven't yet found the source.   Good job it's a tiled floor.

Homework for me this morning then patch group this pm.   Se eyou later.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

  • @Hostafan1 That's a hard one I assume you have looked them all up on the WNO web site and read the story lines it really is down to individual preference and how much opera you have attended before.

    https://wno.org.uk/whats-on/roberto-devereux-donizetti
    https://wno.org.uk/whats-on/the-magic-flute-mozart
    https://wno.org.uk/whats-on/un-ballo-in-maschera-verdi

If you are a newbie then I would suggest The magic flute its light and easy to get on with and will be sung in English.

The other two will be in Italian with surtitles in English which I find can detract away from the performance but if your not to worried about the actual words just the beauty of the opera then my next choice would be Un ballo in maschera.

    Hope this helps a little.

A group of us are actually going to see The Magic Flute when they come to Southampton on the same tour next year.

@The Gardeners Boy I feel Flute would be easier for Hubby ( he'd rather see a west end musical )
I've seen ,and loved L'elisir d'amour and Maria Stuarda at Grange Park Opera and loved them both so I'm drawn to the Donizetti.
I've never been disappointed by anything I've seen by Verdi.

  • Hey, all the same names are here! Forum looks different. Dropped off the world for a while as life got too busy. Not that it's much less busy now but just about finished the ten year house refurb and thoughts turning back to the garden.  Looking forward to catching up with the news x

    Morning all. Welcome back Supernoodle.

Had a good day at daughter's yesterday. We weeded her flowerbed, overgrown with grass. She's expecting her 3rd baby in March and had bad morning sickness, but it's gone now. A lot of her plants had died from being too dry and hot when they were on holiday. We went to a GC, best one I've seen in France, even had a restaurant but it was shut on Sundays. Bought 5 small shrubs and I bought myself 2 trays of violas, much better selection than at my local GCs. Also played dice and card games with the grandchildren before lunch. It was cold and foggy but after lunch the sun came out.

Son & family, 3 little girls, are coming this evening to stay for a couple of nights. They live 5 hours away, near Auxerre.

Must get on with the HW. The vacuuming got postponed because of going to see daughter.

Been on the phone for ages this morning with Orange, France Telecom, while they did tests on the livebox. They've done some repairs on the line in the lane but they need to come with more men, equipment and a cherry picker as the overhead line is damaged in several places. They said I must be patient. At least the phone has stopped crackling for the moment, but it may be because of the sunny weather.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Hurrah @Supernoodlewave  was thinking about you just the other day ... how are the little (or not so little) ones?

Hmmmm discovered why we had a trickle under the washing machine ...  thing is we now have a flood and all the towels in the house (apart from the best white bathsheets) are mopping up the floor ... we're off to B&Q to buy a long bendy brush to clear out the blocked outlet pipe ... it probably explains the slight damp smell I'd been noticing when I opened the cupboard under the sink ............ oh well, it's still better than taking the washing down to the river in the village and beating it on some stones ....

    Dove :(
You could always do what a family does near me, and just leave the washing out to get 'cleaned' by the rain for umpteen days...  :D
Sun has now made an appearance - hurrah - so I think I'll put the bikini on and go out and get a tan...that'll keep the neighbours away  ;)
