Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I love those photos all you Scots! It was worth Obelixx having a bit of fun to encourage you to prove your point. 😃 Since it’s after midnight here, I’m a packing up. Catch you all tomorrow. Now I can’t post.
LP - I was just being naughty. I know you get some sun maybe 3 days in a normal year!
Sometimes even four days.... We just pretend we don't get any, otherwise it'd be hoaching with tourists. Bad enough as it is! The tower is McCaig's Tower. Built at the end of the 19th C, I think. One of those 'I'm a wealthy bloke, so I'm building a big tower' type of affair. I think it's been tarted up [gardens etc] and is a popular vistor attraction now. Joyce will know more than me.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Yes, McCaig was a wealthy banker, born on Lismore (from where Liri has posted photos). He was being partly philanthropic, providing work during the winter months for stone masons. The stone is from Bonawe quarries, Loch Etive. Fairygirl takes to the hills in Glen Etive.
Lots of beautiful photos. Love Scotland and haven't spent nearly enough time there.
Glad you've had a nice day, Pat. The weather gods obviously spotted that you'd got plenty of logs in and decided to thwart your plans.
Say hi to Wonky from me too, Dove.
We are finally starting to get some beans. This has been the worst year ever, by some margins. I've had more from 3 or 4 plants in the past than 10 this year - the heatwave totally did for them. I kept them watered enough, they put on lots of growth and a fair amount of flowers, but virtually no beans were forthcoming. I assume it was the very dry, scorching heat. Now it's cooled down there are tons of flowers and lots of little beans on their way, but I don't know how much longer it'll last. I love beans though, so I'm glad to have more than two or three at a time, at last.
I've been getting things ticked off my 'to do' list. Had a desperately needed haircut today, sewed some belt loops onto Bow's trousers, did a bit of lawn scarification, lots of watering (the ground is still bone dry), booked tickets for the next concert (nearly forgot), and the usual housework stuff. College enrolment tomorrow and making sure I've done everything else for the next week that can be done as I've somehow organised myself into a silly to and fro that has become even more complicated by unexpectedly starting college. College -> Suffolk -> London -> Bow's concert -> Suffolk -> College -> Harvest Festival. What was I thinking?
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
Ah, no. Well, not that I know of! Every year my whole family (those who can) go on holiday together. There's a a lot of us so we have to find somewhere large that can also accommodate my brother's needs, so there's not a lot out there. This year we just couldn't find anywhere available within the school holidays, and as I'm the only one with school age kids now, we bailed out and the others booked a place in Suffolk for next week. The kids really like it, so were disappointed to be missing it. So, since it was booked I've arranged to go with Trill after school Friday to Sunday. Bow's concert is on Monday and she has weekend rehearsals, so she and OH are staying here. Then for complicated reasons I realised that I could go with Bow Tuesday to Friday (Trill has school). This was arranged, then the Friday college place came up, so now T and I are going very late on Friday after school AND college, B and I are coming back on Thursday instead of Friday, and I'm thinking that maybe all this to-ing and fro-ing was a silly idea! Then I've got various Harvest Festival related commitments the following weekend.
I'm sure you didn't really need or want to know all that!
