@Dovefromabove in Limerick there is a sad feeling when we hear the helicopter as it means someone has gone into the river @Pat E please don't stop the pics, I love seeing them as our landscapes and wildlife are so different........and we can enjoy your summer while we're all wrapped up awaiting ours again
Pretty sure the helicopter I saw today was a Sikorsky or something very similar ... a friend in the USAF used to fly them back in the 70/80s.
We're near the big hospital so usually a helicopter flying over means there's been an emergency and the air ambulance is up ... it used to be Prince William of course. This one was much bigger and much much noisier.
My dear late Pa was a rear gunner in Lancasters ... a few years ago we took him to Duxford see that one being restored ... he really enjoyed that day. He was also a rear gunner in Wellingtons ... very appropriate for a farmer

When we lived in Bordon/ Alton, we too saw the Chinooks, and, I'll certainly second the fact that they made the whole house shake. My FAVE flypasts were the Red Arrows in perfect formation flying over our house on the day of my daughter's birthday at exactly the time we were sitting in the garden having lunch. I looked up and said " bang on time, they told me they'd fly over us at lunchtime " No 2 daughter was sooooooooooooooo thrilled. ( No 1 daughter was older and realised I wasn't being entirely honest. ) Another occasion was the day after I'd seen a feature on local news about the restoration of a Vulcan Bomber. I was in the garden and heard a noise which reminded me of the report, I looked up , and there it was. My guess , on its way to Farnborough.
The 3rd was during Farnborough Air Show week and a "Stealth " bomber flew directly overhead. I managed a good photo of it, but my scanner is poorly , so I can't show it here.
I see the Red Arrows flying over my office in Lincoln from time to time, on their way to/from Scampton. Sadly the Vulcan isn't flying any more. I'd have loved to see it.
We used to see all sorts when the RAF had the Finningley airshow - now that it's a commercial airport it's mostly 737s coming and going.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Good photo, Frit. You can even see through the windows.
Thanks for all the lovely comments, folks. I appreciate them very much.
Nearly timevfor bed here. Just finishing a Master Chef. I must admit I’m getting fed up with John’s negative comments. Greg is much more positive. I’m rather impressed with the bank manager.
The Battle of Britain Flypast usually forms up over Sole Bay off the Suffolk coast before heading for Buckingham Palace ... my late Aged Ps lived at Southwold in Sole Bay ... dear Pa would be out there to salute them ... even when he was at The Lovely Home and in a wheelchair we'd remind the Lovely Carers and they'd push him outside to watch and salute as they flew quite low past him

Carry on being impressed with the bank manager ... he's definitely a bit of a star

We've been watching the latest Celebrity Masetrchef. Can't believe how positive John has been about some pretty rubbish cooking so far. let's hope those left pull up their socks for the finals and that the AJ oik (actually better on this than on SCD) finds something else to do than custard!
