On the other hand, given that, sadly, he did have a diseased mind, he'd be in a position to know, presumably.

The long standing one that still really bugs me - how long has 'absolutely' been a synonym of 'yes'?

And while we're talking about the BBC, why have they decided to change all of their headlines to the present tense in a tabloid style "Police find a body" rather than "Police have found a body"? It isn't more informative, more immediate or more accessible. It's just more annoying.

  • The phrase that drove my father mad was "at this moment in time" 5 words instead of 1 (now). As far as I can remember this was a favourite phrase of Lord Robens who was chairman of the National Coal Board, but it still crops up from time to time now.

Issue! Isn’t that your next magazine or comic?
Now this is off at a tangent but Lyn has reminded me of this gripe.
My SD pays my GW subscription for me as a present, she has been doing this for quite a number of years. At the Annual renewal they always try to charge her full price, yet they send me a discount offer. Surely it is not beyond them to realise that a gift subscription is being paid by someone else, NOT the recipient.

Given that the magazine comes with around 30-40% direct advertising content and quite a lot of sponsered articles as well They should be paying us to read it by now.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Brilliant wild edge😀😀
I don’t have the magazine anymore and when I did I got it free on my tesco vouchers.

Agree. "At this moment in time it is the winter of our discontent" doesn't have the same ring to it as the original.

I am very curmudgeonly at the moment. I splashed out on an expensive door wreath from the local shop (need to keep local businesses going etc). It was beautiful in that arty. home-made type fashion. I did remark at the time that it was quite heavy.
I have just hung it on my front door and 10 secs later it fell down, smashing itself to bits on the front step...…. I have rescued the 'ornaments' which I will duly take back to the shop and ask her to make me a lighter one!!

That teaches me for getting above my station in life!
