I've said it before , and I'm afraid I've not changed my opinion.
"there's not one single politician in this country, of any political persuasion , who deserves my trust, my respect , or my vote."
Sadly very true.  There have been a few in the past who would tick the first two boxes but not the third as none of them were members of the party whose politics I broadly support.  Trusting and respecting the individual doesn't mean I could or would vote for their political party.

There's no middle ground in politics any more. There's just a bunch of part time career politicians whose only political aim is to keep their jobs and get a sinecure at the end of it.

    I think they should:

ban  MPs from having additional jobs

ban  alcohol from the house of commons and breathalize them before they enter the chambers

    ban MPs from employing relatives

ban MPs from taking up a directorship of an existing  company for at least 3 years after they cease to be an MP

Like any of that's going to happen .Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

Btw I understand that an American state voted in a dead brothel keeper this week. Maybe that's the way to go. @Lyn ,you could vote for your nice Mr Wilson

I'll go with any or preferably all of that :/

I'd halve the number of MPs,( they can't even all sit down if they turn up at once ) double their salary ( no extra cost ), no expenses, no second homes. Convert an office, or travelodge so they can book in for the night if they need to, no second jobs ( our local MP , Geoffrey Cox has earned over £2,000,000 in the last couple of years as a barrister, WHILST  serving as an MP) .

Politicians who only do politics have even less idea about ordinary people and normal lives and problems.   They need to have other interests and experiences but yes, if they're elected they need to be proper respresentatives of their constituents so I would tie salary to attendances in parliament, work on committees, numbers of constituents helped and limit extras such as expenses and freebies and jollies.

He’s not a barrister now though.
he must be doing something right, he’s been in politics here for 18 years, he lives near to me, I can’t see anything wrong with earning loads of money.  I dare say he pays some tax on that Salary.

If someone is being paid to be an MP, that should be their full time job: not a sideline.
If he wants to practice law, that's fine with me, but don't take taxpayers' money pretending he's doing his all for his constituents, clearly , he's not.
