Not quite the same either a grammatically simplified form of a language, typically English, Dutch, or Portuguese, some elements of which are taken from local languages, used for communication between people not sharing a common language.
I don't think that's quite the same. " A 'lingua franca' is any language that is used as a medium of communication among peoples who don't share a common language."
But that's what English has become. I heard two guys speaking English to each other because neither of them was English and neither knew where the other guy was from. Took about 5 mins of conversation before they found out they were both Iranian and both spoke Pashto from birth.
I wish I was a glow worm A glow worm's never glum Cos how can you be grumpy When the sun shines out your bum!
No. They were using English as a common language because they knew they would both speak that no matter where they came from. English is the language everyone now learns in order to speak to everyone else on the planet.
I'm not understanding the confusion.
I read somewhere that about 90% of what is on the internet is written in English. So it's becoming common to everyone. Why use French? Which is common to relatively few people.
