Evenings will start getting lighter in 12 days’ time - something to be un-curmudgeonly about.

We had planned to go to an Xmas market this pm, one we know to have crafty and Xmas stuff we like as well as food stalls.   Planned to have dinner on the hoof as we strolled but the weather is horrendous.   Much too wet and blowy for outdoor munching.

I know evenings start getting lighter soon but I've always found February the worst month.   January is dull but you can legitimately hibernate whilst getting over Xmas excesses and in March spring is starting to move along with bulbs bursting but February can seem endless - at least it did in our last house.  This location isn't half as dull and grey.

Shame about the Christmas market Obelixx.  I know what you mean about February. It may sound daft, but l know that by the end of January the sun will start to reappear in the lounge just before the end of the day, and that keeps me going !

I think we should blame it on the scapegoat.

The last xmas market I went to ended up with us huddled in a shop doorway to escape the wind and rain while sipping lukewarm mulled wine and trying to enjoy a soggy hog-roast bap while a brass band played some very lack lustre carols while checking their watches to see if they could jack it in and head to the pub. It's never the magical experience you expect.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

My last one was in York a few years ago. I arranged to meet my OH outside a well known store. There were so many people they were literally being swept past me. If anyone had tripped and fallen they would have been trampled underfoot. I don't suffer from claustrophobia or panic attacks, but l was getting seriously worried.  I have never been so glad to see OH in my life! He got a tight hold of my hand and we managed to get out in one piece.

It is in Germany and some Belgian Xmas markets.  I've found some cracking decorations and presents there and they have a good atmosphere.    Have never been to one in Britain.

Our local one, held in the wonderful old Halles, was brilliant the first year but not as good last year and worse this year.   I don't think the French quite get it but the one we're missing was good last year  - good mix of festive foods and drinks and crafts plus street food and drink stalls in a charming setting - and the one in Nantes was good fun too.
