Country living is fine if you don't need to work ... not a lot of employment in really rural areas nowadays, so unless you're prepared and can afford to commute to a large town an hour or more away people are forced to live in urban areas :/

In Belgium we were 10 minutes by bus from a train station with lines to Brussels or Namur, Luxembourg, Strasbourg plus the junction of two main N/S and E/W motorways.   Here, we are more remote from such amenities but retired and have done it on purpose.

Croydon is a scary place to drive, tramlines all over the place - best avoided :worried:

I had 2 parcels delivered by a popular on-line retailer today. One was offered as costing £1.71 extra if I wanted it to fit through the letterbox and still turned up in packaging that would fit through a normal letterbox despite me refusing to pay that. The other was a pre-ordered item that was released yesterday and was sent free delivery but with an option to 'upgrade' for £2.99 if I wanted it on the day of release. They told me when I ordered it that it wouldn't come for another week but I was willing to wait to save £2.99. They must make a tidy profit on what are basically scam postage costs.

    I ordered a , very manly , hair band from Amazon: 71p .
I thought " how much are they going to rip me off for P&P ?" nothing.
I went to order another once it arrived and they'd gone down to 52p including postage ( from China ) I went into Amazon the other day and it flashed up at 17p , including postage.
I'm all for companies making pofit, even lots of profit, but surely this system can not be allowed when a 2nd class stamp costs 58p.

It does make you wonder. I bought an LED torch from Amazon for £1.75. It was posted from China complete with AA battery, all metal body and is actually a fairly decent torch. The profit on them must be pennies.

I ignore the deliver tomorrow option because the stuff usually arrives the next day anyway.
It's probably easier for them to just send the thing out rather than let it hang around in the warehouse for a few days

Yes, it is always good for the soul when some random
     person admires your garden!
