I got a bit of glass stuck in my finger while cleaning the greenhouse and the wound kept flaring up for months after. Someone suggested it might have turned into a wart so I used cider vinegar on it and it turned black and dropped off very rapidly. I've not had a problem with it since. I just put a couple of drops on some toilet roll and bound it over the wound with tape. There's probably better instructions on-line though.
Must’ve been a lot of vinegar for it to cause your finger to drop off.
A work colleague from Siberia once gave me a tip for managing a chest infection, without using drugs (mainly because when she grew up in Siberia, in the 70s, there was very little access to medical care).
Take a couple of handfuls of porridge oats, steep in a cupful of vodka, add mustard seed and crush, add some horseradish leaves and crush more, then cook the lots gently until ingredients have bound together, forming a soft mound.
Put inside a muslin, making a poultice and apply to chest when still skin hot. Apparently it draws out the mucus / aids expectoration.
I agree with you @Tin pot must of been a lot of vinegar I have been taking a small glass every day for a couple of years and nothing has dropped off as far as I'm aware
