Some rain last night and this morning but not enough to be absorbed, SE. However, the wind is far from pleasant - knocking over all the pots at 30mph, squashed plants
It's unbelievable. Overnight thunderstorms caused no end of trouble, trees down in high winds, flooded areas. Today nearly called off Heckington show as high winds had taken full sized tents across the showground and hurt two horses on landing, caused the cancellation of both sheep and cattle shows. The showground is tractor tire deep in mud. 😲😲😲🙄🙄🙄
All I've had is a couple of teasing handfuls thrown against the windows, not enough to wet the flags. The wind is continuing the dessication of the garden plants though, more and more wilting and nothing to give them. Think I will be starting my garden from scratch again next year...
Hardly a drop has landed here - thunder in the distance - yes, clouds - yes, the sound of the odd drip - yes, anything in the water butt - NO. We have strong winds, blue sky and sunshine, but no measurable rain, still. We are assured that it WILL rain but nothing happens, we are assured that our lawns will recover and I am sure they will too. In the meantime keep up with the watering all you gardeners.
Just had a proper thunderstorm followed by ongoing light rain. I think enough has fallen to actually do some good at last! That was the end of my 60 day drought.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
I live just south of Lincoln (all of 3km) and we have had very little. A few goodish downpours but only for a short while. The soil is bone dry just underneath the surface. However as I can only get to the allotment tomorrow, it looks like it is going to rain most of the day! The heavy rain seemed to be to the right and left of us.
My husband washed the car yesterday (badly). It worked a treat! I might give him a sponge and bucket again tomorrow. I am happy to loan him out REALLY cheap.
Last night in E.Lincs we had a marvellous display of pyrotechnics ; it deposited nearly 40mm of very welcome rain on my garden . Never complain about rain ; soft-water and free of charge too !
I'm in Namur at the mo moving Possum to a new apartment. It hasn't rained in any meaningful way for over two months and trees are dying all over the place which is astounding given the usual levels of rain in Belgium and the high water table.
Last year in our new home in the Vendée we had a 15month drought that ended in mid December and the only casualties were some existing dwarf conifers I was happy to see die and one newly planted (by me) hamamelis I didn't rescue in time.
I hope those of you gasping for rain get some soon and enough to save your treasures. Don't worry about grass. It recovers quite rapidly. Trees and shrubs, not so much.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
