Thoughts on yellow courgettes

  • We usually remove all but one of the first set of flowers on our courgette plants, knowing that the first few fruits will be small and immature and a waste of the plant's energy.  I would also have said that the containers are too small, but everyone has a different system and if that works for you, then carry on with it.

Well thought I would update the progress of my yellow courgettes. After reading @Guernsey Donkey2 post I decided to cut off the two flowers at the base of each plant, but 11 days later and I have more growth, healthy plant, but still no sign of courgettes! Still have what appears to be male flowers at every (joint?) . These are going to be very late fruiters if this carries  on.🤔🤔🤨

Well thought I would update on the progress of my yellow courgettes. After reading what @Guernsey Donkey2 said decided to remove the two lowest flowers on each plant, but 11 days later have continued growth, healthy plant but no courgettes. There are still what looks like male flowers at every ( joint?) , but no courgettes. If this keeps going it will be very late to fruit.
  • I have 2 plants growing on the edge of my compost heap. Both obviously from the curcurbitor? (spelling!)  family. The leaves are beautiful, dark green heavily veined with white, they have just begun to trail so I am guessing they are probably marrows although it is ages since I grew any marrow plants. The only other idea I have is they have come from something I have bought as a fruit/veg. and discarded the seeds. It is exciting to have a total unknown growing which might produce a surprise crop of something delicious or not!!

Marrow, melon, cucumber, courgette, etc, ???????

I have 2 yellow courgette plants but nothing set yet. Loads of male flowers and plenty of new shoots appearing so I wait in hope. I have grown them before and have always had good crops eventually.

Ok I will try to be patient .🙄 Not very good at it, keep looking at beautiful large toms in the greenhouse but still waiting a month for them to ripen is hard.🙄🙄🙄 Will just have to make do with the glut of cucumbers.😁

Yet again an update on unproductive yellow courgettes. The healthy plants are now three times as big, but still no fruit. They are now three weeks older than first picture.

I really do not think those are flowers, I would say that plant has some genetic/viral deformity and will never do anything

They look similar to the male flowers on the green courgettes just bigger, and more of them.

Open one up, I really doubt you'll find the pollen stamen in there.

Have done and there is a ring of yellowy/green pollen capsules. It's just that that is all the plants have, no sign of females at all.
