IMHO if the whole world turned vegan tomorrow, the following day almost every cow, pig, goat, sheep , chicken etc etc on the planet  would be slaughtered

Slaughtered by whom?  Vegans being mostly compassionate people, I think it's far more likely that the remaining livestock would be lovingly cared for, but prevented from breeding, until they died of old age.  As already happens in many animal sanctuaries.  But why speculate on the outcome of such a highly unlikely event?

If consumer demand for meat and other animal products declined globally, it would be unlikely to happen overnight.  And if it happens gradually, the farmers will simply breed fewer animals.

They would be slaughtered by the farmers because they would no longer provide an income and would still need feeding using money they no longer have.   Simples!  Same as happened to shire horseswhen tractor sbecame cheaper to run and all sorts of old breeds of pigs, cows, sheep when "modern" breeds came in that respond to high intensity farming.  60 day chicken anyone?  No thanks!

and plastics would replace leather, wool, feather and other meat byproducts. Organic fertilisers like blood fish and bone and farmyard manure would cease to exist. Large areas of land would become overgrown and not in a good rewilding type way. and half the world would commit suicide due to a lack of bacon.

Reduced livestock numbers and meat consumption would be a real benefit but removing them all together would be a disaster.

Hill fire update: The hill was a mass of glowing embers all night and the chopper has been back today to douse more flare ups. Photos just can't do the night time view justice.

Another fire started further down the valley just after school kicking out time. Luckily the helicopter was in the air soon after and hopefully took care of that before it got going. A couple of these little arseho arsonists need stringing up as an example to their kind. :|
