and I spent a long time today complaining about how poorly sliced shop-bought garlic bread is these days... :#

Well is it so hard to cut it into an even number of pieces and minimise the size of the crusts at the ends? :s So often there's 9 slices and one massive end piece. That kind of behaviour can result in divorces all over the country.

Luckily I have a fine crop of garlic this year so our marriage will be preserved for a little bit longer once we start making our own. Another reason why gardeners are happier people I expect.

I've got no arguement with the crust but you have to have a good bread to garlic butter ratio which you lose if the slices are too thick.

When you get to the crust you could cut it the opposite way, making chunks instead of slices.

Melt butter , garlic, herbs etc and dip the slices in like French toast and put them in the oven. Never tried it myself, but it might work.
