I enjoyed the protests tho I doubt they'll make any difference to Trump.  With any luck tho, his behaviour in and after Helsinki will have cooked his goose with some erstwhile supporters and given impetus t opponents.  I've been reading online about HM QE II cocking a snook at him too with carefully chosen brooches but way too subtle for him to see.

As for slavery - please let us not forget that the white slavers discovered slaves were an available commodity.  They did not invent the trade.  It was part of African culture.  Certain tribes had been capturing and selling others to the Arabs for centuries and made themselves even richer with the new market.   Not saying it's right.  Just saying it isn't a whites only sin.

Of course it's not a whites only sin ... I never said it was ... I wasn't talking about the slavery itself, I was talking about Black & White Minstrel shows being unacceptable nowadays  "...  If you like a song and dance act by all means sing and dance ... there is no need to black up and attempt to romanticise and make acceptable the effects of man's inhumanity to man. I was having doubts about this forum, if I am being honest, so I am delighted to hear people expressing liberal views eloquently and robustly and having no truck with casual racism, and sexism too I might add.

The bible has no trouble with folk keeping slaves or even selling your own daughters as slaves.

Thing is Dove, that many African Americans and West Indians don't know that about their African history and think it is all white evil.   Have to admit I never really liked the B&W Minstrel show.  Always made me feel uncomfortable as did Hollywood representations of jolly, fat, household slaves devoted to their Southern Belle white mistresses.

The Bible is also a product of its time when slavery was the normal fate for conquered tribes.   The only good thing about that is the Hebrew slaves' chorus in Nabucco.  The horror is that there are still slaves today with women and children in particular being trafficked and other cultures where females are generally seen as commodities and inferiors.

Meanwhile, we've had more rain and Minstrel, a very busy female puss, has been complaining about there being rain at every window and door.   She's very eloquent on the subject.

Not surprising when even their names and language were taken from them and families were split up ............

Deeply envious of your rain :'( ......... "they're" talking about thunderstorms here at the weekend, but why should I believe their promises ... they've broken them before  ;)
