"Fire, if it's heated controversy you're after, which way round should a toilet roll be fitted?"
@josusa47, I'm not after heated controversy, just interested how often it blows up and how bitter it gets, how fast it spirals. Forums (and other tech platforms) tend to short, terse, staccato prose, which makes for bullet-type exchanges. It can be fun, quick and pithy, but there is so much missing between the lines. Misunderstanding is often filled into the spaces, or offence, or hurt. I think this is especially true if people are using phones, as they are even more given to speedy exchange. I think this is why smilies are so much used - to take the edge off and try and fill the cold void.

Well, aren't you the party pooper, going all serious on us when we were having such frivolous fun.
Who the hell are you calling a party pooper? Right! That's it! Outside - Now! I've had just about enough of this middle class poodle-snowflake-melty-melty attitude.

And who are you calling middle class? I was born in a Victorian tenement, left school at 16 and held a union card all my working life. Even held a Party card for ten years. OK, I did go to uni, but only after 22 gap years.
Victorian tenement? I was born the 13th of 14 children and we all lived in one room behind a tanning factory. We had to get up at 4am and work picking up pins for 18 hours with nothing to eat but dripping. You had it royal! Some people don't know how lucky they are.
I notice it has been about a week since there was a bout of shouting and insult hurling and high
dudgeon on the forum. Isn't it time someone blew a gasket about
something? I blew my gasket sometime back, a new one is on order from
Ebay. Any one have a wobbly they fancy throwing?
I sold some things on eBay and everyone apart from the last seller left wonderful feedback. I even had someone travel 3 hours to visit me! The final @r$e demanded money from me as she felt she over paid (despite it being a tenth of what I paid). I told eBay and they read the messages and agreed she was abusing the system but still insisited that I pay the returns even though the seller explicitly says that there is nothing wrong! How awful is that.
Did you email ebay or did you have to use their chat facility? I was looking at an item this evening and it was tagged with an offer from ebay saying 'buy this item and get 10% off using this code'. So I won the auction, went to pay and was told the code had expired. I checked the Ts&Cs and the code was valid until 8pm and the auction finished at 8:00:23 I want to moan at them but they don't actually seem to have a customer service email and I hate waiting on hold since I'm pretty sure they'll tell me to jog on.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
the way to do it would be to apply for a refund from the seller on the basis of being crap. If they refuse, there is a formal way of retracting your bid. You then leave excoriating feedback on the seller's page.
To be honest I won the auction for a decent price and I need the item so I'm not worried about paying the seller and it's not their fault. I just think if ebay offered me the money off they should honour the offer.
