I'm just back in, and saw a huge number of new posts on this thread. @New Gardener - you've already taken the first steps to resolving this properly by coming back here and asking for help and advice. You've then followed some of that advice, and have made lots of headway already, in just a short time. Give yourself a giant pat on the back, be kind to yourself, and see what happens in the next few days, now that you've set some wheels in motion. You have plenty of support here. Remember that if you're having a wobble
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Aw that's a lovely suggestion, Thanks, I'll check it out. I don't honestly know much about gardening though, but I can always learn.
You don’t have to know much about gardening ... some of us know more than others cos we’re a bit further along the pathway ... that’s all ... thus is a place where we can all learn something and everyone’s contribution is of value.
Anyway, in the chat threads we talk about all sorts of stuff, everything from our favourite meals, music, moaning about work or weather, celebrating good days and helping each other through the bad bits. Some of us have actually met each other, and others of us have become genuine friends although we have never and probably will never meet. There are folk from all over the place ... Pat is in Australia and was in the middle of those awful bush fires; Obelixx and Busy Lizzie are in France ... so is Dordogne Damsel and she has a restaurant/cake shop 🍰 😊 Fairygirl is in Scotland, walks a lot and controls the weather with her wand 😉 Punkdoc is recovering from a major operation and loves his music, and Hostafan has hundreds of hostas and a new baby grandson. Lyn lives near Hosta in Devon, I live in Norfolk and paint and cook and garden and my daughter is a gardener called WonkyWomble.
There, now you’ve been introduced to one or two of us ... but there’s more ... theres YvieStevie and Liriodendron and ........... others ... and none of us bite 😉 so now you’ve been introduced you can pop in and say hello on the Hello Forkers when you need a bit of company.
By the way ... we have decided that we are all 27 ... grown up... but not ‘old enough to know better’ 🤪 I am 27 and so is my daughter Wonky ... 🙃

I'm so pleased you've made progress. A visit from a nice man in uniform should nip it in the bud. At least you know they're on your side and ready to help in future
The police and got back to me. The neighbour said he had a Gardiner in during the week while he was out at work and he had permission to cut the overhanging branches on his garden. He said he didnt notice much difference in the height of the trees. He asked the policeman for my name and thankfully the police and didnt give it. The police told him he didnt have permission to cut the height of the trees and that if it happened again I would take steps to prosecute. (My tree surgeon said that there was no way from looking at the trees a Gardiner would do it, and not without permission from the other neighbour).
And thanks dove from above for your introductions, it's nice to know that support is there. (Sorry just a quick message at this time, have to sort the baby)
So he’s a coward as well ... blaming the gardener 😡 legally the gardener was the neighbour’s agent and he is responsible for the actions of his agent.
Well, he’s been told now ... he won’t dare use that excuse before ... any more cutting of your trees will have to be deemed deliberate so he won’t dare do it.
I think you’re home and dry 👍 🛋 ☕️ 🍰 😉

I just hope there's no retaliation. He asked the policeman for my name (on the previous letter I just put 'owners of'...) thankfully the policeman refused to give him my name. I think I'm still shocked abit at his attitude, even to the policeman. I just wish I was cheekier to deal with such people myself, but I'm just not and it worries me.
I've asked a guy about the chain link fence for the posts, but he recommended using steel wire through the posts instead, which I'm fine with. Hopefully I'll get it sorted soon. I think I'll try and get a tree surgeon to shape the trees a bit more to encourage the health and look of them.
Anyway, its lovely to get you know all a bit more, I'm not quite 27 myself anymore unfortunately lol and certainly dont feel it! I'm 34 and in Northern Ireland. I'm an admin officer and first time mum to my 7 month old son, which is keeping me very busy! He's trying to crawl at he moment and its difficult to keep an eye on him now, he's dynamite!
We were just clearing the area around the trees today and the neighbour had cut quite a bit of them off and now we have to dispose of it. There's quite a bit. Any ideas that might not cost us money? We have no saw.
