Nocturnal creatures deserve some dry nights too don't they? Don't mind the rain as I can be busy indoors too but I'm fed up with the dark. Needing lights on in daylight in June is just mad.
Watching Springwatch last night and I realised I haven't heard nightingales this year yet. Maybe it's too cold and cloudy for me to go out looking at the stars and hear their song or maybe they're struggling with weather too and either haven't arrived yet or need time to rebuild their energy before they get into breeding mode?
Today we have been to pick up the spare part for OH's big strimmer and they had a 30% off offer on bathroom paint - handy for the new shower room - and a bright white arum plant leapt into my trolley too. 15.99€ but it will split into 4 plants and start a lovely clump. OH fancies some for cut flowers.
Thence to the SM for the weekly raid and I found some Osmogel which contains sulphate of magnesium and have applied some. Fingers crossed it works. I need a functional thumb for just about everything.
Pdoc - maybe adjust the planting scheme a bit and get the effect you want with different heights of pot? Mrs P would probably only benefit from a break if she sees an end to it so I can understand she feels he need to find something new but investing in a rest would be good for her too.
Busy - enjoy your retreat. I hope it does the trick and you feel re-energised.
Liri - such a good project to be doing. Enjoy the mud pies and the results.
I hope this weather pattern passes soon and we can all get on as planned. Hugs to all feeling below parr.

Afties all - June already The sky was quite black on the way down the road, and the thunder's rumbling here, but no rain yet. Before I went to work [slightly better today !] I moved all my sweet peas that aren't planted out yet, to a 'safer spot' just in case they got annihilated. Better safe than sorry. doc - if you were nearer, I'd gladly come and dig you some holes - with my good arm I understand the frustration at not being able to have things the way you want. Hope Moira finds something too, but as the others have said - take a step back and a little break. I think you both need [and deserve] a bit of recharging of batteries. Maybe you should go to that retreat with BL ... If I was BL - I wouldn't bother coming back! Too much stress... That white arum sounds lovely Obelixx. TBG - you could always keep the top off and have an outdoor shower - save on the leccy...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Afternoon all, That retreat sounds lovely BL. Have a really busy month coming up with lots of extra Nanna duties as Secondborn is doing some extra moderating days to help cover the cost of maternity leave.
Have some treats to look forward to. Going to Dorothy Clive Garden tomorrow to admire the laburnum walk, (will take photos) also popping in to David Austin roses on the way back. Have tickets for Gardener's World next week and then off on a trip for a few days at the end of the month with Bestie down south to look at a few gardens.
All that gravel spreading sounds like hard work Liri. I fetched and spread 4 bags today and that was bad enough. Also called into Ashwoods and bought a few white petunias for a bare patch and also got a Persicaria Superba for the front garden.
Weather has been lovely, not quite as humid as yesterday.
Fortunately there will be several of us on gravel spreading duties, Yvie. Today's archaeology was fascinating but puzzling. Anyone here know anything about holy wells?
Finally we have proper rain. Lovely... though I was relieved to see OH appearing out of the gloom, having left the golf course when he realised a proper storm was on its way.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Fairygirl, it's a thought, but I reckon the shower gel might not be all that good for the plants.
Where's this r*ddy rain we were promised then? I thought if I went out and watered everything in pots, and aerated and topped up the pond, that would be a sure way of getting it started....

Liri, I thought holy wells are just springs associated with pagan gods or, if you're Irish, you turn them into a shrine and call them after a saint.
I went for a 30 minute snoozle after lunch and woke up 2 hours later to find OH weeding my shade bed. Yikes! Big feet on small treasures and he only recognises nettles and sticky bud. Had to dive in myself to make sure he didn't yank out the two hydrangea paniculatas I want to re-locate and also found some brunnera and a white pulmonaria and a white vinca he was about to trample. Pointed hi at big thistles and something with teeny yellow flowers that I don't know. Didn't have it in Belgium.
I've rescued several hostas from the ravages of slugs and now have a dozen teeny plants with chewed leaves all potted up in fresh compost. Hope they recover. I shall have to find a spot to make a hosta reserve and surround it with sharp grit and broken shards. Squished some snails and hope the hedgehogs come and find some more.
The sky has finally cleared and it's been warm and sunny More of the same expected all day tomorrow but nasty stuff on Sunday. BF on the moon thread reckons June is going to be unsettled........

Has he fallen down the crack between 31st May and 1st June? ....
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
