I planted mine a previous garden and trained it along wires above the top of the fence to , guess what? keep the feckin' cats out.

    Hello folks!

Glad the thumb is more comfortable, Obelixx.  Don't let it go on too long before getting medical help though...  you might need antibiotics, by the sound of it, as well as "help" with thorn removal.  I'm a bit sensitive to the need for caution with deep puncture wounds...

We had a busy weekend, culminating in another concert, this time in Saltaire in its amazing nonconformist Victorian church.  (The village is a UNESCO world heritage site, and well worth a visit if you happen to be in the vicinity.)  The audience was smallish but appreciative, so it was worth the effort.   :)

Must go and water the runner beans, finally planted on Saturday.  It hasn't rained since, though it's quite grey and cool today.

Four more barrow loads of manure have been fetched before Bruno and OH stopped for a beer and a chat. I have been weeding the sunny front bed which is very dry despite all the rain so needs a watering before I can get down deep for those bindweed roots.  We've had thunder and dribbles which aren't enough.

Thumb is doing very well now thanks Liri but there's a lot of dead skin to shift before it heals up.  Thorn still there but no spreading infection.  Should be done in a day or so.   Glad the concert went well.

I need a keyboard freezing button for when Minstrel comes for a cuddle.  Her paws always manage to make some interesting things or settings happen.......

Was very warm this afternoon so weeding was hard going.
Found a dead hedgehog 🦔 RIP.
I just hope he had come to the end of his natural life and not disturbed by a foe. On a positive though, he appeared to have used the old curved terracotta roof tiles I had left for wildlife - so I will keep those there and maybe not tidy up too much in that corner. Win win.
Hope you are all ok this evening.

Obelixx, my mum always made a bread poultice to wrap around thorns burried in fingers. It might help to do this of a night.

Hello all. 164 posts since I last looked, haven't read any yet.

We had a lovely peaceful weekend, came back to tipping rain this afternoon and an estate agent visit this morning so I couldn't garden then. The next 2 weeks the forecast is rain, also on my Open Garden Day.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Regards having a thorn/skelf buried in flesh.  Put a little boiling or very hot (steam required) water in a bottle and put the skin (where thorn/skelf is) over the top of bottle. For some reason (vacuum effect?) it gets drawn out.  Not sure if you've tried this or not, but it always works for me ( I have a little glass bottle, old air freshener thingy, I keep in a drawer for exactly this reason. :)

The thorn seems to be migrating from under the nail and out through the side of my thumb.  The Osmo-Gel says it can take 5 days.  I've had similar before but not in my right thumb which has been a serious PITA.   Managed a couple of hours of weeding, a bit of planting and some watering today so it's getting better.

I've also spent a couple of hours proof-reading Possum's thesis which is on Brexit and the image of the UK..............

Glad you've had some good R&R Busy.   Don't despair.   Our forecast has proved inconsistent and inaccurate of late.  Today's rain was not forecast and the violent storms promised for yesterday were cancelled.

I'm off to bed.  Good night all.

    Sleep well all.
ive been listening to various versions of ‘Ukelele Lady’ on my iPad in preparation for our group learning it. I think I like the Kermit version best, especially with Miss Piggy swinging on a moon in the background. 😂😂😂😂😂
