Morning all. I’m just as confused with the weather as you Obelixx. Fairy, it really would be nice to follow the good weather around. Not much chance of that though. I’ve never had a passport and probably won’t bother at this late stage of life.
Hi Pat - no longer have a passport either. Wonder if they'll get on top of that Manchester fire soon. I see they've arrested someone for the new one. What the **** is wrong with people? There's one down in Ayrshire, on a small hill/moor. Two of the girls I work with are in that neck of the woods, and mentioned it yesterday. I hope that isn't arson either. I was slightly concerned last week when I parked up for my walk. It's a lovely little glen, and there's a parking area just before the farm and the start of the hill walks. There was the remains of a fire just where I parked. There's woodland about 100 feet beyond that. The river's close by, but....

Morning all. Another glorious day here , but breezy so shouldn't feel too warm. The sparrowhawk photos were a fluke. I was sitting here at my laptop with the door opened and I heard the birds scatter and turned to see him sitting there. My camera was beside me so I didn't even have to get off my chair to take it. I too have taken to "gardening" at 6pm . The last two nights I've been donning the waders and clearing branches dragging into the water at the sides of the lake. I'm leaving those overhanging for shade / shelter , but those in the water are just obstacles which clog with weed later. Are you heading to the hills @Fairygirl? I loved the Devon garden too, but got sooooooo bored watching the 5th, or was it the 6th garlic bulb being lifted . I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
Fairy, we constantly have that problem in the fire season, - trying to understand what stupid people do for kicks. The TV hasn’t reported any more about the UK fires lately, so I thought they might be getting somewhere with them. Some hope! I can understand why you were cautious about your car parking. 😳
Ditto re the garlic Hosta Hopefully a hill tomorrow. It's the low level bit that's the issue - unbearable unless there's wind. I remember doing Ben Vorlich [Loch Lomond] in June many years ago, and there was only relief from the heat at about 1500 feet. June can swing from hot and humid to cold and wet so easily here. Pat - they introduced a ban on wild camping in L. Lomod/Trossachs a few years ago. I don't know how well they police it, but that's the kind of thing it can help prevent. In fatc, last time I was in that glen, there was a group of people [illegally parked] with tents set up. I stopped to say you can't be there [unusual for me to be brave enough] and didn't realise that just ahead was the park ranger's car - obviously telling them the same thing!

Pat, smaller birds and small mamals/ amphibians too I think. They say " a sparrowhawk is nature's way of telling you , you have a well stocked wildlife garden" or something like that.
Yes Pat ... hence the name, but they'll take pigeons too, particularly the females which are bigger than the males and have rusty brown-coloured backs rather than the slate blue colouring.

Pat - in that area, it's probably quite well policed, as there's a naval base nearby. There are also munitions bunkers across the river on the lower hillside. I have some photos of that side, but the bunkers are well disguised, quite hard to pick out. This is from one of the other hills, taken a couple of years ago - you can just make out the 'humps'

Re the Sparrowhawk, I’ve never seen one before, so maybe they haven’t been introduced here. Do they prey on smaller birds? Nice looking bird though.

Off out to do some emergency watering, before heading off on the airport run with Auntie.
And then a day of lounging methinks 😎
