Tough gig Hosta. Doesn't sound like a very sensible system if you can't get through on the phone when there's an issue either.   :(

I had a productive day - it cleared up beautifully here. Even did my physio exercises out in the garden. :)
Sowed basil and some lettuce and did all sorts of those little pesky jobs that get put off because there's always something else more important to do.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

It was the sending text messages which made my blood boil. They knew I'd locked the key in the back of the van, IE, I wouldn't be driving so why not just flippin' phone me?
And folk wonder why I hate text messaging?
I've had tea and chocolate now, so I'm happy, and it looks like it's going to be nice tomorrow so I might have to test ride the new sun beds. ( The VIP visitors will have to take the garden as they find  it. ) <3

I feel like I deserve some sort of award.. I just spent 45 minutes digging over a four foot wide raised bed with two 'helpers'.  I know the whole mantra of 'start them young'.. but the boys were driving me nuts.  Small hands and small shovels in the way, dirt flying the the air and out of the beds, weed roots chopped into tiny pieces and buried again.. lord. Usually they just help for a few minutes then loose interest.. but I think there was some sort of 'be mummy's best helper' competition going on.  I feel guilty, but gardening is my thing.. and I was so tempted to send them inside to their devices.  We did have some good conversations about the soil and the bugs we found.. but I've got so much to do before the weekend is over.

I need some wine with that whine.

Lol bless ya Blueonion! That made me roar with laughter! I have my friends eight year old son ask if he can come and help me in the garden often, I empathise with your predicament, don't want to discourage but would you mind awfully s##ding off please and leaving me to my one little piece of sanity I have left!! Any more wine? 😉👊
Hosta, not a good day!! I hate text messages too, if I'd wanted a late reply I'd have sent a letter!!! Don't worry, your VIP visitors are quite forgiving, I hadn't mowed the grass and there was definitely visible weeds when they came here 😉
Hi Fairy 😊 sounds like a better day for you than Hosta! Physio outside sounds very zen! I'm not bothering with lettuce this year, focus is on flowers, fruit and veg, and planning my pond! 😀 time to relax before bed, back to work tomorrow, night all😴

Busy day here.   Been at a mosaic class all day - made a ladybird on a pebble to be dried off and grouted later - with some very entertaining colleagues from the garden club.   Our teacher has retired from a 1 hectare woodland garden to a single storey eco house on a teeny plot which is crammed with amazing plants and arty bits.   She uses rusty builders' metal bits as I have before and plan to do here, no matter what OH says.

Home in time to plant out some drought tolerant ground cover in the well bed and some trailing pelargoniums in the front door pots then roast a chuck for dinner.

We have just watched the BAFATs - didn't recognise half the nominees and were surprised Blue Planet didn't win given it's started what I hope will be a plastics revolution and thus have a lasting legacy.

Hosta - there was a campaign in Belgium against Sunday opening on the grounds that women (95% of Sunday SM staff) wanted to be at home with their kids but it turned out that the vast majority were only happy to to let their OH do some single-handed child care.

Wonky - well done for sitting and thinking.  Good to get a pond, or any other wildlife feature, right.

I hope everyone's had a good day.   Hope you all have a good week too.  Getting parky again tonight but should warm up now as tonight is the last of the icy saints - according to the RC calendar.   Unreliable in my experience so I'm sticking with lunar.

Been transfixed in front of the Young Musician of the Year Final ... superb, brilliant ... absolutely in awe of such talent, dedication and hard work. Best evening's telly in a long while  <3

Hosta, test the loungers thoroughly ... don't want any accidents if I have a lounge on the terrace!

Now in bed ... sweet dreams all  :)

  • Today I done absolutely nothing, sat on a comfy recliner on my newly levelled chips admiring the results of my hard graft and progress so far.............whilst getting burned stupid by the sun.

Sounds a good day BG, but I hope you aren't sore tomorrow.

We went to visit our friends' Open Garden late morning. It was looking very pretty, lots of irises out. They asked us to lunch, which was nice. Went home to do gardening but the heavens opened so dusted the bedroom and dining room instead.

When the whole Sunday Trading thing kicked off big time , mid 80s , I was working for B&Q and it was the same there. Many women said it was the only day they got to mix with just adults, not talk about baby/children stuff and , as you say, let Dad see what it's like to look after the kids alone for a day.
Nobody is compelled to shop on Sunday, nor any other day but I can see no justification on the law denying shops the ability to open the same hours as any other day of the week.
Imagine you couldn't shop online except Mon-Sat 9-5 when shops used to open ( apart from closing at lunch time and half day on Wednesday )
The world has moved on , many have very flexible working hours now so let shops open when it suits them, and , more importantly, their customers.

I really like the choice to shop (groceries) whenever I feel like it. Not bothered about other shops. 😏
