  • Maybe he'd just seen his brassica patch decimated by flea beetles - oh no, that was me this afternoon.

Poor Mary Portas, having to pick her veg in a cage and having her view spoiled by it. First world problem springs to mind. Fgs, show me the plants at the  show!! Look at the dahlias behind her, tell me about them, not the cultural zeitgeist. Sorry, rant over.

I never got to watch a programme right through.  A sleb would come on, make me squirm and I would switch channels and forget to switch back.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

@AnniD, CB has suffered from rheumatoid arthritis all is adult life. He says gardening has kept him out of a wheelchair. Maybe he was in acute pain when you saw him.

@Fire, you could very well be right - l suffer myself and could certainly relate if that were the case  :)  As l said, it was many years ago and it was just a first impression that stuck with me. Over the years l have admired his work as a designer (his planting schemes are lovely) and also like watching him on Beechgrove.
